In a scathing attack on the Modi government, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh claimed that the government's announcement to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census was a deliberate attempt to deflect attention from the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Speaking to reporters in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, Singh expressed that while the AAP supports the caste census, he is skeptical about the government's intent, claiming that the BJP would likely forget about the initiative after the upcoming Bihar elections.

Singh compared the government's handling of the caste census to its lack of action on the Women's Reservation Bill, accusing the ruling party of making announcements without follow-through. "They announced the caste census without any budget allocation, without a timeline, much like the Women's Reservation Bill which remains unimplemented," Singh stated. He emphasized that once the Bihar elections conclude, the government would likely abandon the caste census issue, just as it did with other unfulfilled promises.

The AAP leader also questioned the government's commitment to addressing pressing national security concerns, particularly in light of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 unarmed tourists. Singh characterized the attack as a direct failure of the Modi government's intelligence and security apparatus. "The entire nation was waiting to see how the government would address Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and eliminate terrorist threats. Instead, we saw innocent lives lost while the government focused on distractions," Singh asserted.

He continued by criticizing the government's response to the Pahalgam attack, pointing out that over 2,000 people were in the area at the time, yet terrorists were able to carry out the attack with ease. Singh accused the Prime Minister of prioritizing election campaigns in Bihar over national security, noting that Modi left an all-party meeting to focus on campaigning. He also criticized the government's crackdown on journalists and YouTubers, pointing out the incongruity between targeting these individuals and taking action against terrorist groups.

Singh's remarks are part of a broader AAP critique of the BJP-led government's handling of national security and its focus on politically expedient issues, such as the caste census, rather than addressing core security concerns. The AAP MP also reiterated the need for the government to take concrete action to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), a resolution that has been passed by the Indian Parliament.

As the political landscape heats up ahead of the Bihar elections, the caste census has emerged as a major talking point, with the opposition parties, including the Congress and AAP, using it to question the government's priorities and motivations. However, with no clear budget, timeline, or strategy outlined by the government, skepticism remains regarding the seriousness of the caste census initiative. Meanwhile, the Modi government's handling of the Pahalgam terror attack continues to face scrutiny, with demands for greater accountability and decisive action against terror outfits backed by Pakistan.
