Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the legendary playback singer known for his soulful voice and memorable tracks in Bollywood, recently opened up about the rift between him and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. In an exclusive interview with ANI, the singer shed light on the reasons why he no longer sings for SRK, despite being the voice behind many iconic songs from the 1990s and early 2000s.
Abhijeet, whose unforgettable songs like "Chaand Taare," "Tauba Tumhare Ye Ishaare," and "Woh Ladki Jo" were famously picturized on Shah Rukh Khan, revealed that the issues between them started when he felt that his contribution was not being properly acknowledged. The veteran singer pointed out that while everyone on the set, even the tea vendor, was recognized for their efforts, he, as the playback singer, was not given the credit he deserved. This lack of acknowledgment led him to question his role and commitment to the projects with SRK.
In a candid reflection, Abhijeet expressed, "When self-respect is hurt, you feel like saying, 'Enough is enough.' I wasn't singing for him (Shah Rukh); I was singing for my work. But when I saw that they were acknowledging everyone--like a tea vendor who serves tea on set--but not acknowledging the singer, I felt, 'Why should I be your voice?'"
He further clarified that while the relationship between him and Shah Rukh was not entirely broken, he acknowledged that SRK had become such a huge star that he might not even be aware of his own growth. Abhijeet shared that both of them are Scorpios with birthdays just a day apart, and while they have strong personalities and egos, he felt that he did not need SRK’s support anymore. In his own words, "I'm still the same person I was; I am growing in my own way. I don't need him or his support."
The Upcoming IPOs in this week and coming weeks are Dhanlaxmi Corp, Jungle Camps, Toss The Coin, Purple United, Rosmerta Digital and Avanse Financial.
The Current active IPO is Nisus Finance and Emerald Tyre Manufacturers.
Adding another layer to his grievances, Abhijeet also spoke out about his recent disappointment at Dua Lipa’s Mumbai concert, where the global pop star performed a mashup of her hit song "Levitating" with Abhijeet’s "Woh Ladki Jo". Despite the song being performed on stage, Abhijeet expressed his displeasure over not being credited for his contribution to the track, a situation that once again highlighted his frustrations with the lack of acknowledgment in the industry.
Abhijeet’s comments reveal his growing sense of self-respect and desire for recognition in an industry that often overlooks the contributions of playback singers. His candid reflections on his relationship with Shah Rukh Khan and his recent experiences in the music industry resonate with many in Bollywood, where acknowledgment and respect often come with challenges.
