Adani Energy Shares Soar After Mahan Transmission Deal with REC

Shares of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) surged over 7% on March 27, 2025, following the announcement that the company signed a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) for acquiring a 100% stake in Mahan Transmission Limited (MTL).

The stock was trading at ₹860 per share, marking its highest level in 2025 so far and continuing its strong recovery trend after a sharp decline last year.

Details of the Mahan Transmission Acquisition

According to the company’s filing, the deal was executed on March 26, 2025, and involved the acquisition of:

  • 50,000 equity shares of Mahan Transmission Limited (MTL).

  • A total cash consideration of ₹3.28 crore, along with expense reimbursements.

The entire stake in MTL was sold through a competitive bidding process, where Adani Energy emerged as the winner.

What is Mahan Transmission Limited (MTL)?

MTL is a crucial transmission asset that will help evacuate 1,230 MW of power from Adani Power’s upcoming 1,600 MW expansion units at Mahan, located in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh.

The transmission network will integrate with the state grid, ensuring better power distribution and efficiency.

Adani Energy Solutions stated:

“This acquisition is in line with AESL’s strategy of enhancing value for shareholders through organic and inorganic growth opportunities.”

Impact on Adani Energy’s Stock Performance

Adani Energy’s stock has seen a strong bullish momentum, gaining 31% in the last month. The stock has rebounded sharply after touching a 52-week low of ₹588 in November 2024.

However, despite the recent rally, the stock is still significantly below its 52-week high of ₹1,348 per share, indicating potential room for further upside.

Meanwhile, shares of REC Ltd were trading with marginal gains at ₹429 per share after the announcement.

Why Did Adani Energy Shares Surge?

Several factors have contributed to Adani Energy's stock jump, including:

  1. Strategic Expansion in Power Transmission – The MTL acquisition strengthens Adani’s position in the transmission sector, reinforcing its long-term growth strategy.

  2. Strong Market Recovery – Adani Energy rebounded 31% in one month, signaling renewed investor confidence in the stock.

  3. Competitive Bidding Success – Winning the bid for MTL demonstrates Adani’s ability to secure strategic assets, further enhancing shareholder value.

Future Outlook for Adani Energy Solutions

The acquisition of Mahan Transmission Limited is expected to support Adani Energy’s long-term vision of becoming a leading player in India's energy infrastructure sector.

Investors will be watching for further updates on:

  • The integration of MTL into Adani’s existing network.

  • Expansion plans for power transmission in other regions.

  • Revenue and profitability impact from this acquisition.

With continued expansion in transmission assets and a strong market recovery, Adani Energy Solutions remains a key stock to watch in the Indian energy sector.
