Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has secured a landmark deal by placing India's largest order for eight state-of-the-art harbour tugs worth approximately ₹450 Crore with Cochin Shipyard Ltd. This order will significantly enhance Adani’s fleet, raising it to a total of 152 tugs, and is part of the company’s broader initiative to bolster India’s maritime infrastructure.

The tugs, each with a 70-tonne bollard pull capacity, will help improve port operations by making them more efficient and safer for vessel movements. The delivery of these vessels will begin in December 2026 and is expected to continue until May 2028.

This deal aligns with the government’s Make in India initiative by fostering local manufacturing, with Cochin Shipyard Ltd leading the production. Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director & CEO of Adani Ports, expressed confidence in the collaboration, highlighting that this move not only enhances India’s maritime safety but also contributes to the country’s self-reliance in shipbuilding.

This follows APSEZ's previous contracts with Cochin Shipyard, which successfully delivered two 62-tonne bollard pull ASD tugs ahead of schedule for Ocean Sparkle Ltd. Now, with 13 tugs ordered, Adani is fortifying its operational capabilities and pushing forward with a vision of sustainable maritime practices.

Adani Ports Overview:

APSEZ, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, operates 7 ports on the west coast and 8 on the east coast of India, accounting for 27% of the country's total port volumes. The company is also expanding internationally, with operations in Sri Lanka, Israel, and Tanzania. As part of its ambitious goal to become the largest ports and logistics platform globally, APSEZ continues to invest in both infrastructure and logistics solutions to meet growing global supply chain demands.
