  • Adani Power Ltd. has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. for 2,400 MW from a greenfield ultra supercritical plant in Pirpainti.

  • The project, awarded through lowest supply rate at Rs 6.075 per kWh, involves an investment of approximately $3 billion under the DBFOO model.

  • The plant is expected to generate 10,000–12,000 jobs during construction and ~3,000 during operations, with full commissioning in 60 months.

Adani Power Limited (APL), India’s largest private sector thermal power producer, has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) for the supply of 2,400 MW of power from a greenfield ultra supercritical plant to be established at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, Bihar. The agreement was formalized on September 12, 2025.

This PSA follows the Letter of Award (LoA) granted by BSPGCL to APL in August 2025, on behalf of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL). Adani Power secured the project by offering the lowest supply rate at Rs 6.075 per kWh.

The total investment for the new power plant and supporting infrastructure is estimated at approximately $3 billion, and the project will be implemented under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. The coal required for the plant will be sourced through the SHAKTI Policy of the Government of India, ensuring a reliable fuel linkage for uninterrupted operations.

The plant’s construction is expected to create 10,000–12,000 direct and indirect jobs, while ~3,000 jobs will be generated during the operational phase. APL aims to fully commission the plant within 60 months, significantly enhancing Bihar’s power generation capacity and supporting energy demand growth in North and South Bihar.

Adani Power, part of the Adani Group, currently has an installed thermal capacity of 18,110 MW across twelve power plants in states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, the company operates a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat. The company’s focus on innovation, technology, and world-class operations aims to contribute to India’s power-surplus status, providing reliable and affordable electricity across the nation.

The project at Pirpainti highlights Adani Power’s strategic expansion in the northern regions and underscores its role in enhancing India’s energy infrastructure, promoting economic development, and generating significant employment opportunities.
