Afcons Infrastructure Limited, a key player in India's infrastructure sector, has secured a significant contract for constructing the Bhopal Metro Line 2. The project, awarded by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MPMRCL), will involve the construction of a 12.9-kilometer stretch from Bhadbhada Chauraha to Ratnagiri Tiraha, along with 13 elevated stations. With a total project cost of Rs 1006.74 crore, this contract positions Afcons as the lowest bidder for this critical infrastructure project.
Project Scope and Details
The awarded project, categorized as Construction Package BH-05, is a crucial segment of the Bhopal Metro Phase 1 development. The 12.9 km corridor, designated as the Blue Line (Line 2), will connect Bhadbhada Chauraha and Ratnagiri Tiraha through elevated structures and stations. Afcons’ responsibilities in this project include not only building the elevated stations but also the viaduct and a ramp to Subhash Nagar Depot, which will serve both the Blue and Orange lines for shared stabling and maintenance facilities.
This development will significantly boost Bhopal's public transport network by offering residents a new, convenient mode of transportation. The addition of 13 elevated stations, combined with a modern, efficient metro system, is expected to reduce road congestion, cut down on travel time, and contribute to a more sustainable urban environment.
Project Execution Model and Timeline
The Bhopal Metro Line 2 project will follow the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model. With an ambitious 36-month completion period, Afcons will aim to deliver this infrastructure within the set timeline, ensuring rigorous adherence to quality standards and safety protocols. As an EPC contract, Afcons will oversee the complete execution process, from design and procurement to construction, a comprehensive approach that aligns with their expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects.
