Amazon to offer free public tours of its fulfilment centres in Delhi, Bengaluru

NEW DELHI | BENGALURU:
Ever wondered what happens after you click “Buy Now” on Amazon? How does that item travel from a digital shopping cart to your front door in just days — or sometimes hours?

From Q4 2025, Amazon India plans to answer those questions for curious customers by opening its fulfilment centres (FCs) in Delhi NCR and Bengaluru to the public for free, in-person guided tours.

Announced on Monday (June 30, 2025), this initiative marks the first time Amazon’s vast network of smart warehouses in India will officially welcome everyday visitors, offering a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the cutting-edge logistics powering India’s ecommerce boom.

Behind the click: What visitors will see

According to Amazon, the 45 to 60-minute guided tours will allow visitors to explore facilities where millions of products are stored, customer orders are processed, packed, and shipped daily.

“This initiative invites interested visitors to visit Amazon’s fulfilment centres, offering a glimpse into the technology and an opportunity to meet the people behind customer deliveries,” Amazon said in a statement.

Participants will be able to see robotics systems, inventory management technology, scanning processes, packing stations, and shipping operations in action.

Why open up the warehouse?

Globally, Amazon has run public tour programmes in the U.S. and Europe for several years, positioning it as a transparency and education effort to help consumers understand the complexity of modern ecommerce logistics.

By launching the programme in India, Amazon says it wants to:

  • Demystify its operations for Indian customers

  • Build trust by showcasing the technology and people behind deliveries

  • Inspire interest in supply chain and logistics careers

“This expansion of our public tour programme to India demonstrates our commitment to transparency and customer engagement,” the company noted.

Locations and timing

For its initial rollout in India, Amazon has chosen two major fulfilment centres:

Delhi NCR — Amazon’s hub for North India, serving one of the country’s busiest ecommerce corridors.
Bengaluru — The centre for South India’s booming online retail demand.

Tours will be free but require advance online booking, with slots expected to open closer to the Q4 2025 launch. Amazon said details on scheduling, visitor limits, and age requirements will be published on its website.

A look at Amazon’s Indian fulfilment network

Amazon India operates more than 60 fulfilment centres across 15 states, with a cumulative storage capacity exceeding 43 million cubic feet.

These facilities are designed to store a vast array of products — from books and electronics to groceries and furniture — and enable faster deliveries, including same-day and next-day options in many metro regions.

The warehouses use automation, robotics, real-time tracking systems, and advanced sorting and packing lines to maximise efficiency and reduce error rates.

The visitor experience: A walk through Amazon’s logistics heart

Based on Amazon’s global tour formats, the India programme is expected to take visitors through:

Inbound Dock: Where products from sellers arrive and are unloaded.
Stow Area: Items are scanned and placed on shelves or robotic pods.
Picking Process: Associates or robots retrieve ordered items from storage.
Packing Stations: Items are scanned, packed, and labelled for shipment.
Shipping Dock: Final dispatch of packages to customers or delivery hubs.

Tours will be led by trained guides who explain processes, answer questions, and highlight safety measures.

Building trust and awareness

Amazon’s move to open its Indian fulfilment centres to the public comes at a time of increased scrutiny of large ecommerce firms, with debates over pricing power, working conditions, and environmental impacts.

By letting customers see operations up close, the company hopes to demonstrate its investments in safety, technology, and employment generation.

Fulfilment centres in India employ thousands of workers in roles ranging from warehouse associates to managers, engineers, and robotics technicians.

Encouraging careers in supply chain and logistics

Industry experts note that such programmes can spark interest in logistics careers, particularly as India’s ecommerce market continues to expand rapidly.

“Supply chain and logistics are among the fastest-growing sectors in India. Opening these facilities to the public can help demystify the work, showcase modern technology, and attract future talent,” said an industry analyst.

Global footprint of Amazon’s public tours

Amazon has offered public tours in the U.S. and select European countries for years, with virtual tours launched during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These tours have been used as public relations tools, letting customers see the scale, technology, and human effort involved in delivering orders — and countering criticism over labour practices.

With India’s ecommerce sector projected to grow to over $150 billion by 2027, opening fulfilment centres to tours reflects both a marketing move and an educational effort.

How to sign up

While bookings have not yet opened, Amazon said it will provide a dedicated online portal closer to the launch in late 2025.

Tours will likely have limited slots per day and may require government-issued ID for entry. Safety briefings and guidelines will be mandatory, given the busy nature of these industrial facilities.

Conclusion

For Indian consumers used to the magic of “one-click shopping,” these tours promise to lift the curtain on one of ecommerce’s most advanced — and least seen — operations.

From robotics to human workers scanning and packing items, visitors will get an up-close look at the complex dance that ensures orders arrive at millions of doorsteps every day.
