In a high-level security review meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the importance of national security following the successful Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation, carried out between May 6 and 7, was a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives, mostly tourists. Shah described the operation as a “befitting reply” to those behind the attack, reinforcing India's zero-tolerance approach to terrorism.

The meeting, which took place in New Delhi, was attended by the Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of border states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and West Bengal. A representative from the Sikkim government also participated. Key officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), including the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and the Director Generals of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), were also present via video conference.

Operation Sindoor: Targeting Terror Camps

Operation Sindoor, launched under the Indian Armed Forces, specifically targeted nine key terrorist facilities in Pakistan and PoJK, including training camps, weapon storage facilities, and hideouts of terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). Shah praised the Indian military's precision and intelligence capabilities, underscoring that the operation was a clear signal of India's resolve to protect its sovereignty.

He commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, calling his authorization of Operation Sindoor a demonstration of India’s commitment to national security and the protection of its citizens. Shah stressed that the strikes were based on reliable intelligence, which ensured minimal collateral damage while achieving their objectives.

Ensuring Border Security and Continuity of Services

A key takeaway from the meeting was the emphasis on heightened border security. Amit Shah urged the border states to remain vigilant and ensure smooth operations of essential services like hospitals, fire brigades, and public utilities. Recognizing the dynamic nature of such operations, Shah directed the local governments to remain prepared for potential emergencies, which could include natural or man-made disasters, ensuring that civil defense units, State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF), and emergency responders remain on standby.

Additionally, Shah instructed local authorities to conduct a nationwide mock drill, aimed at testing the coordination between different agencies during emergency situations, while ensuring that essential services remain uninterrupted.

Combating Anti-National Propaganda

Another significant aspect of the meeting was the call for strict surveillance of social media platforms. Shah noted that there was a rising need to monitor anti-national propaganda and counter misinformation to maintain public order. This directive came amidst growing concerns about the spread of fake news and radicalization through various online channels. The meeting also highlighted the role of civil agencies in ensuring that public narratives remain aligned with national interests and that any activities aimed at disrupting national unity or spreading violence be swiftly curtailed.

Strengthening Coordination Among Security Agencies

A key focus of the meeting was the coordination between the armed forces, paramilitary units, and local governments. Shah emphasized the importance of seamless communication between these entities to ensure national security. With rising security challenges at the borders, effective coordination between various security agencies is vital for preventing any potential threats.

Conclusion: A Unified Approach to National Security

In conclusion, Amit Shah reaffirmed India’s determination to protect its borders and maintain peace and order within the country. He acknowledged the vital role of state governments, local authorities, and security forces in ensuring national safety. The government’s priority, Shah emphasized, was to uphold national integrity and peace, while showing no tolerance for any form of terrorism or disruption of public life.

The meeting underscores a unified approach to national security that integrates intelligence sharing, emergency preparedness, and inter-agency coordination. With heightened tensions at the borders and the growing threat of terrorism, India’s security measures are set to become even more stringent in the coming months.
