Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a strong attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during his recent visit to the state. Shah accused Banerjee of prioritising appeasement politics over national interest, particularly targeting the Muslim vote bank.

Speaking to BJP leaders and supporters, Shah criticised Banerjee for opposing Operation Sindoor, the Centre’s military strike in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. He alleged that Banerjee’s opposition was meant to please Muslim voters and claimed it was an insult to the mothers and sisters of India. Shah urged women voters in Bengal to teach Banerjee a lesson in the upcoming 2026 assembly polls.

Operation Sindoor was described by Shah as a deep cross-border strike on terror camps in Pakistan. He accused Banerjee of being pained by the deaths of terrorists and said her criticism undermined national security.

Shah further accused the Trinamool Congress of involvement in the April Murshidabad riots which erupted over the controversial Waqf Amendment Act. He claimed a TMC minister incited the violence and labelled the riots as state-sponsored. Despite requests from the Ministry of Home Affairs to deploy the Border Security Force during the unrest, Shah said the West Bengal government blocked their involvement, worsening the situation.

On border security, Shah criticised Banerjee’s government for allowing illegal cross-border infiltration and withholding land needed by the BSF to strengthen patrols. He asserted that the Bengal elections would be crucial not only for the state’s future but also for the country’s security.

Shah also highlighted allegations of widespread corruption in the teachers recruitment scam in West Bengal, stating that youth employment was being sold in Kolkata’s markets
