March 17, 2025 – Amritsar: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police has neutralized the main accused in the Amritsar grenade attack during an encounter in the Rajasansi area. The deceased, identified as Gursidak, son of Jagjit Singh, was a resident of Bal village in Amritsar. The police are currently hunting for other suspects who managed to escape the scene.

Details of the Grenade Attack

The Amritsar grenade attack took place around midnight on March 15 when an unidentified person riding a motorcycle hurled an explosive device at a building in the Khandwala area. While no casualties were reported, the blast caused significant property damage, including a damaged wall and shattered window panes. The entire attack was captured on CCTV, helping investigators identify the accused.

Police Operation and Encounter

Acting on specific intelligence, Punjab Police tracked the suspects to the Rajasansi area early on March 17, 2025. As a police team led by the CIA and SHO Chheharta attempted to intercept the suspects, they abandoned their motorcycle and opened fire on the officers.

During the gunfight, Head Constable Gurpreet Singh sustained a bullet injury on his left arm, while a bullet struck the turban of Inspector Amolak Singh. Another round hit a police vehicle, intensifying the encounter.

In response, Inspector Vinod Kumar returned fire, fatally wounding the main accused, Gursidak. However, other suspects managed to flee, prompting an extensive manhunt in the surrounding areas. Injured officers were rushed to Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

ISI Involvement Suspected

Punjab Police suspects Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) played a role in the grenade attack. Officials have linked this incident to a series of recent explosions targeting police posts in Amritsar and Gurdaspur over the past four months. The authorities are actively investigating possible terror links and have intensified surveillance across the border areas.

Ongoing Investigation and Security Measures

Punjab Police has deployed special investigation teams to track down the remaining accused. Security has been heightened in Amritsar and surrounding districts, with police conducting extensive checks at entry and exit points.

Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Officials have assured the public that those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice and that security measures will be further strengthened.

Conclusion

The killing of the main accused in the Amritsar grenade attack marks a significant achievement for Punjab Police. However, with other suspects still at large, law enforcement agencies continue to monitor and investigate possible terror networks linked to the incident. The situation remains under close watch as police work towards ensuring public safety and preventing further attacks.
