Amul, India's largest dairy brand, has announced a massive investment of ₹600 crore (US$ 68.6 million) to build the world’s largest curd plant in Kolkata. The facility will be developed at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah by Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd. and will operate in two phases.

With a daily production capacity of 10 lakh kilograms (kg) of curd and 1.5 million litres of milk, the new plant will cater to the rapidly growing demand for dairy products in West Bengal. Special focus will be given to the state’s local delicacies like 'mishti doi' and 'tok doi', ensuring a strong regional market presence.

White Revolution 2.0 & Amul’s Market Expansion

Amul’s investment aligns with White Revolution 2.0, the government-led initiative under the Ministry of Cooperation aimed at boosting India’s dairy sector. West Bengal’s dairy cooperative movement is expected to gain strength, with Amul further expanding its milk procurement network.

Global Impact & Amul’s Dairy Dominance

Amul’s global footprint is expanding, with the brand now ranking 8th in the world in milk processing and exporting dairy products to nearly 50 countries. The Kolkata plant will further enhance Amul’s production capabilities, reinforcing its leadership in India’s dairy sector.

Conclusion: Amul’s Investment to Strengthen India’s Dairy Industry

With its ₹600 crore investment, Amul is set to revolutionize curd production in India, supporting West Bengal’s dairy farmers and regional dairy products. The plant will drive employment, increase milk procurement, and further solidify India’s position as a global dairy leader.
