Social activist Anna Hazare made sharp remarks about Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, accusing him of abandoning his values in pursuit of personal gain. Hazare, who was once a mentor to Kejriwal, expressed disappointment in the latter’s shift towards a more money-driven approach, instead of the ideals of truth and sacrifice that he had once espoused. Hazare recalled their early days of working together, when Kejriwal was just a volunteer in his movement. Hazare had repeatedly advised him to maintain clean behavior and views throughout his life, stressing the importance of sacrifices and following the path of truth.

However, according to Hazare, Kejriwal’s focus eventually shifted, and he became more focused on money than the ideals Hazare had taught him. Hazare lamented that Kiran Bedi and other key figures in his initial movement had also supported him, but it was Kejriwal who chose to stray from their shared cause. Hazare’s comments come at a time when Kejriwal is facing corruption allegations from various quarters, further fueling the controversy.

These remarks coincide with a tense situation surrounding Kejriwal’s controversial statements about the Yamuna water poisoning. Kejriwal recently claimed that the BJP-led Haryana government deliberately poisoned the Yamuna river to harm the people of Delhi ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The Haryana government has since filed a case against Kejriwal for these allegations, while the Election Commission of India (ECI) has demanded more evidence to back up his claims.

In response to the ongoing controversy, the ECI has asked Kejriwal to clarify the specifics of his allegations, including the nature and quantity of the so-called poison, along with the methods used to detect it. The commission also asked for detailed information on the engineers, location, and methodology used by the Delhi Jal Board staff in identifying the alleged poisoning. Kejriwal has been given a deadline to provide this information by Friday at 11 am, failing which the Election Commission will take appropriate action.

As the Delhi Assembly elections draw closer, scheduled for February 5, the political atmosphere has become even more charged. With the BJP attempting to reclaim power in the national capital after years of being out of power, the AAP faces its toughest challenge yet. Hazare’s comments add another layer of complexity to the ongoing political drama, as Kejriwal’s credibility is being questioned amid allegations of corruption and political maneuvering.
