What's covered under the Article:

  1. Antony Lara Enviro Solutions wins two 15MW Waste-to-Energy plant contracts worth ₹3,200 crore in Andhra Pradesh.

  2. Projects awarded by NREDCAP will supply power to APSPDCL under a ₹8.10 per unit PPA over a 20-year concession.

  3. Facilities will process MSW waste, reduce landfill load, and expand Antony Waste’s renewable energy footprint.

Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited (AWHCL), one of India’s leading integrated solid waste management companies, has announced that its material subsidiary, Antony Lara Enviro Solutions Private Limited, has secured two major contracts for ~15 MW Waste-to-Energy (WtE) projects each at the Kadapa Cluster and Kurnool Cluster in Andhra Pradesh. These contracts have been awarded by the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (NREDCAP), a Government of Andhra Pradesh undertaking, with a total value of approximately ₹3,200 crore.

The projects will have a construction period of around 24 months from the later of the concession agreement signing, Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) execution, or land transfer. The contracts also include a 20-year concession period, during which the generated power will be purchased by the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL), serving the Kurnool and YSR Kadapa regions, at a tariff of ₹8.10 per unit.

These WtE facilities are designed with an advanced pretreatment Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that will process mixed municipal solid waste (MSW) before conversion to energy. Leveraging automated sorting and separation technologies, the MRF will recover recyclables, extract organic fractions for treatment, and convert remaining inorganic, non-recyclable residues into a calibrated feedstock for the WtE plant. This feedstock will then undergo high-efficiency incineration to generate renewable electricity.

Once operational, the plants will divert thousands of tonnes of waste from landfills daily, helping reduce methane and carbon dioxide emissions. This directly contributes to the Government of India’s renewable energy capacity targets and aligns with the Swachh Bharat Mission objectives.

Jose Jacob, Chairman & Managing Director of AWHCL, stated that the company is honored to be selected for these landmark projects, which underscore technical leadership, execution strength, and commitment to sustainable waste management. He highlighted that converting waste into clean energy not only addresses pressing environmental challenges but also accelerates Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy transition.

With these projects, AWHCL’s clean and green energy portfolio will expand to around 44 MW once operational, enhancing its presence in Southern India. This marks a significant geographic expansion and reinforces the company’s capabilities in waste processing and energy recovery.

Over the years, AWHCL has evolved from a municipal waste collection operator to a fully integrated waste management leader. The company has worked with more than 23 Municipal Corporations across India, managing services from waste collection and transportation to scientific landfill operations. In recent years, it has diversified into the Waste-to-Energy segment, commissioning Asia’s largest single-location waste processing facility at Kanjurmarg, Mumbai, and Maharashtra’s first WtE plant under the Green Energy Open Access Rules at PCMC.

The Kadapa and Kurnool projects are a natural extension of the company’s strategy to leverage innovative waste processing technologies for both environmental and economic benefit. By combining material recovery systems with high-efficiency energy generation, Antony Waste ensures maximum resource utilization and minimal landfill disposal.

This milestone further strengthens Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited’s position as a pioneer in sustainable waste management and renewable energy generation. The contracts demonstrate growing institutional confidence in the company’s ability to deliver large-scale, environmentally impactful projects that contribute to India’s circular economy and net-zero ambitions.
