Apple's iPhone exports from India reached $5 billion in the first five months of FY25, marking a 54% increase.

The surge is driven by the manufacturing of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Max in India and Apple's PLI scheme collaboration.

Exports are expected to rise significantly from November to March due to the festival season and new model introductions.

Apple's iPhone exports from India have experienced a remarkable surge in the first five months of FY25, reaching an impressive $5 billion. This marks a significant 54% increase from the $3.2 billion recorded during the same period last year. This growth highlights a pivotal shift in Apple's export strategy, driven in part by the decision to manufacture the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Max within India. The current export figure for this period has already matched the total exports for the entire FY22, indicating a strong upward trend in India's role as a key manufacturing hub for Apple.

A major contributor to this export surge is Apple's partnership with three major vendors—Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron (now Tata Electronics)—under the smartphone production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. Collectively, these vendors have committed to a substantial export target of $8.9 billion for FY25. The PLI scheme has been instrumental in boosting India's manufacturing capabilities and enhancing its export potential.

Typically, iPhone exports experience a slowdown between August and October as factories shift their focus to meeting domestic demand, particularly following the global launch of new iPhone models in September. However, it is anticipated that exports will see a significant increase from November to March, driven by the festival season, especially Diwali, and the introduction of the higher-value iPhone Pro and Pro Max models. This period is crucial for boosting export volumes as demand ramps up in key markets.

In FY24, Apple produced over $14 billion worth of iPhones in India, with more than $10 billion exported to markets in Europe, West Asia, and the US. This robust production and export activity underscores the growing significance of India's manufacturing capabilities in Apple's global supply chain. Additionally, Apple's domestic sales in India reached Rs. 67,000 crore (approximately $8.09 billion) in FY24, largely driven by strong iPhone sales.

The premium segment in India has also seen substantial growth, with Apple holding a notable 46% market share, while Samsung leads with a 53% share. This growth in the premium segment reflects increasing consumer preference for high-end smartphones and Apple's strategic positioning in this lucrative market.
