In the aftermath of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has voiced serious concerns about the security lapses that led to the killings of 26 innocent civilians on April 22. During a media interaction, Owaisi raised critical questions regarding the presence—or lack thereof—of security personnel in the area, including the absence of a police force or Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in a popular tourist destination like Pahalgam.

The terrorist attack, which took place in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam district, involved gunmen opening fire at a group of tourists, leaving 26 dead and several others injured. Owaisi expressed his disbelief at how such an attack could occur in an area frequented by tourists, questioning why there was no immediate police presence or a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) in the vicinity. He pointed out that the QRT took more than an hour to reach the site of the attack, which he considered a significant security failure.

They came from Pakistan, and Pakistan supports them. How did they cross the border? Who is responsible for this lapse in security?” Owaisi demanded. He also highlighted the danger posed by the attack, asserting that if the terrorists could reach Pahalgam, they could easily reach Srinagar as well. His words called for greater accountability from the government, urging that justice would only prevail if the security gaps were acknowledged and addressed.

Owaisi’s statement categorically described the incident as an intelligence failure, criticizing the central government's deterrence policy on terrorism in the region. He emphasized that the killing of tourists was more condemnable than previous attacks like the Uri and Pulwama attacks, citing that the terrorists deliberately targeted civilians in an unprovoked massacre. The AIMIM leader's call for accountability was backed by his assertion that a complete investigation into the security lapses was necessary to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The AIMIM Chief also confirmed his intent to attend the upcoming all-party meeting on the Pahalgam terrorist attack, following an invitation from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Owaisi acknowledged that the meeting, which was called to discuss the terror attack's aftermath, was of national importance. He said he would attend the meeting after booking the earliest available ticket, underscoring the urgency of addressing the issue of national security and terrorism in the region.

Before the meeting, Owaisi had urged the government to include smaller parties with fewer than five or ten MPs in the all-party discussions, arguing that Prime Minister Modi could spare more time to hear from all political parties on such an important issue. He also noted that Parliamentary Minister Kiren Rijiju had mentioned that the government was contemplating limiting the number of invited parties to prevent the meeting from being prolonged.

Owaisi’s statements reflect a growing sense of frustration and concern within certain political circles regarding the government's handling of security issues in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the wake of such deadly incidents. As the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack continues, it remains to be seen whether these concerns will lead to more comprehensive changes in national security policies.

Owaisi's comments and his active participation in the all-party meeting highlight the urgency for a unified political response to terrorism and the critical need to ensure stronger security measures in vulnerable areas such as Pahalgam and other parts of Kashmir.
