In a landmark move for India’s innovation ecosystem, SAP Labs has inaugurated its second campus in India — a €194 million facility located on a 41-acre site in Devanahalli, Bengaluru. This state-of-the-art SAP Labs India Innovation Park is expected to generate 15,000 new jobs, primarily for AI innovators, reinforcing the country’s growing role in the global technology landscape.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who addressed the inauguration virtually on August 5, 2025, praised SAP’s investment as a major vote of confidence in India’s talent, growth potential, and innovation capacity. Speaking to SAP Labs’ leadership and employees, he noted that geopolitics, geoeconomics, and geotechnology are reshaping global business dynamics — and India is navigating these changes with steady growth.
“India was fortunate to have a steady growth during this transformative period,” said Vaishnaw, who also holds the portfolios of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT.
From 11th to 3rd Largest Economy
The Minister highlighted India’s remarkable economic journey. He said India had moved from being the 11th largest economy just 11 years ago to being on track to become the third largest. He pointed out that electronics exports had surged eightfold in the same period, demonstrating the effectiveness of India’s pro-manufacturing and tech-forward policies.
Adding to the excitement, he confirmed that India will soon produce its first indigenous semiconductor chip, a long-awaited milestone in the country's efforts to localize and de-risk its tech supply chain.
Railways, AI, and Acceleration
Speaking about the advancements in rail technology, Vaishnaw drew comparisons between India’s Bullet Train project and the home-grown Vande Bharat Express. He noted that while the Bullet Train accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 54 seconds, the Vande Bharat does it even faster — in just 52 seconds, reflecting the speed and precision of India’s innovation drive.
He credited this success to India’s evolving digital infrastructure and commitment to technology democratisation.
Empowering India’s Young Innovators with GPUs
A standout initiative highlighted by the Minister was the democratisation of compute power. In an ambitious public-private partnership, the government has deployed 34,000 GPUs across Indian educational institutions — including universities, colleges, and research centres — to make AI resources affordable and accessible.
“The cost of computing per user in India is now less than $1, while the global average stands at $2.5,” he said, underlining India’s cost-effective innovation ecosystem.
This initiative is aimed at nurturing a generation of AI talent, entrepreneurs, and startups with access to high-performance computing, often a barrier for early-stage innovation.
SAP’s Largest India Office to Lead AI Roles
SAP’s new Innovation Park is designed as a flagship research and development hub not only for India but also for the wider Asia-Pacific region. Located near Kempegowda International Airport, the facility will host 15,000 professionals and will be SAP’s largest office in India.
The campus will anchor global AI roles across Product Engineering, Customer Services, and Delivery, according to SAP officials. The facility will be central to the development of Joule’s agentic AI capabilities, positioning India as a critical node in SAP’s global AI roadmap.
Designed for the Future
True to its name, the SAP Labs India Innovation Park is more than just office space. The future-ready campus will feature:
-
Customer Experience Centre
-
Hybrid collaboration zones
-
AI labs
-
Hackathon spaces
-
Startup incubation hubs
-
And extensive green zones to promote sustainability
This facility stands as a testament to India’s growing importance in global innovation networks and reflects strong international trust in Indian talent.
“SAP’s new campus is a timely investment in India’s growth story. It reflects global confidence in India’s talent and innovation ecosystem,” the Minister said.
India as a Trusted Technology Partner
As the world’s geopolitical and technological order evolves rapidly, India is positioning itself as a trusted technology partner for global enterprises. SAP’s move aligns with this trend, underscoring the country’s long-term commitment to digital innovation, AI, and inclusive growth.
The Union government’s policies — from semiconductor missions to AI skilling to compute access — are all designed to equip the next generation of Indian innovators to lead the world.
Conclusion
The launch of the SAP Labs India Innovation Park marks a milestone in India’s AI journey, coming at a time when global technology competition is intensifying. The investment will not only fuel job creation but also cement India’s position as a global innovation hub.
And with leaders like Ashwini Vaishnaw championing tech-forward policies, the synergy between government support and global corporate investment looks stronger than ever.
