Abdul Rehman, a 19-year-old suspected terrorist, was arrested by a joint team of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Haryana Police’s Special Task Force (STF) on March 2, 2025, in Faridabad for planning an attack on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The terrorist was connected to the Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and had been instructed by Abu Sufiyan, a notorious AQIS operative, to target the temple.

Target Date: April 5

During interrogation, Abdul Rehman disclosed chilling details about the plot. He revealed that he had received instructions to carry out the attack on April 4, bringing along two hand grenades. He was then supposed to execute the attack on April 5. However, before the plot could unfold, Rehman was arrested by security agencies, preventing a potential tragedy.

Grenades and the Hidden Cache

Rehman’s handler, Abu Sufiyan, had hidden two hand grenades and detonators in a pit in Faridabad, which Rehman retrieved and concealed in his bag. Later, he stored the grenades in an abandoned house near Pali village. The police, acting on Rehman’s confession, recovered the grenades, preventing a possible disaster.

Radicalization through Social Media

Rehman also admitted to becoming radicalized through religious content found on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. This content, which fueled his extremist views, led him to join the AQIS network. Furthermore, the police uncovered that Rehman was skilled in making country-made pistols and had videos showing reconnaissance (recce) of religious places in his mobile phones.

Train Ticket Confirms Movements

A train ticket from Ayodhya Cantt to Delhi Junction, dated March 1, was found in his possession, verifying his travel movements and confirming his connections to the region.

Investigation Expands

Authorities are now expanding the investigation to uncover Abu Sufiyan’s role and the AQIS network involved in this terrorist plot. The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has seen an unprecedented rise in devotees since its consecration on January 22, 2024, with increased security measures in place due to heightened threats.

Security agencies are now on high alert, monitoring other potential threats following these shocking revelations.
