India’s AYUSH sector is steadily moving towards achieving the Rs. 17,41,000 crore (US$ 200 billion) target, reflecting robust growth in both domestic and international markets. This progress was highlighted by Union Minister of State (I/C) of the Ministry of AYUSH, Mr. Prataprao Jadhav, during a meeting of the newly established Parliamentary Consultative Committee for the Ministry. This marks the first time the Ministry has a dedicated committee since becoming independent in 2014, providing a structured platform for focused policy discussions and strategic guidance.
Minister Jadhav emphasized that the AYUSH sector’s growth is being supported by a strong network of research councils, statutory bodies, and national institutes, which collectively drive innovation, standards, and evidence-based practices in traditional medicine. Programs like Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and the National AYUSH Mission are expanding healthcare access to millions, particularly in rural and underserved regions, bridging gaps in preventive and holistic care.
The sector’s global presence is also growing. The International Day of Yoga 2025 in Visakhapatnam witnessed over 3,00,000 participants under the theme Yoga for One Earth, One Health, highlighting India’s leadership in promoting wellness and preventive healthcare on a global stage. Minister Jadhav noted initiatives such as Prakriti Parikshan and moringa-based AYUSH diets are reinforcing evidence-based preventive healthcare and sustainable lifestyle practices, strengthening the sector’s scientific credibility.
Members of Parliament participating in the committee meeting suggested several measures to further advance the sector, including: increasing public awareness campaigns, establishing additional AYUSH Wellness Centres, documenting traditional healing practices of tribal communities, and addressing misconceptions surrounding AYUSH therapies. They also reaffirmed the sector’s pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating its importance in national healthcare resilience.
The Ministry envisions AYUSH as a cornerstone in realising the broader Viksit Bharat goal, integrating wellness, preventive care, and global outreach. With continued policy support, strategic initiatives, and international engagement, the AYUSH sector is expected to play a transformative role in India’s healthcare landscape and emerge as a globally recognized wellness and preventive medicine hub.
