Hebbal Flyover Trial Loop Opens to Reduce Traffic Congestion

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has opened a new traffic loop on the Hebbal Flyover for a trial run starting Saturday night. The move comes after the completion of construction work aimed at alleviating congestion at one of Bengaluru’s busiest junctions, providing relief to commuters navigating the northern and airport-bound routes.

The project, initially slated for completion by November 30, 2025, under the directions of Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar, faced delays due to heavy rains. However, BDA officials confirmed that the work was completed well ahead of the extended January 1, 2026, deadline.

Features of the New Traffic Loop

With the addition of the new loop, Hebbal Flyover now features dedicated routes for multiple traffic streams, significantly reducing bottlenecks and improving overall traffic management. Earlier, a loop for vehicles from Nagawara towards Mehkri Circle was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and the new addition complements this by catering to northern suburbs such as Yelahanka, Jakkur, and Sahakara Nagar.

Commuters traveling from these areas can now move directly towards Mehkri Circle, while vehicles returning from Bengaluru Airport will also experience smoother transit. The segregated lanes eliminate the need for manual traffic signals that previously alternated between Airport Expressway traffic and traffic from Jakkur and Sahakara Nagar.

BDA officials highlighted that the new loop is expected to reduce travel time and improve traffic efficiency at a critical junction prone to congestion. The removal of manual signals alone is projected to cut down commute delays, while the dedicated lanes will minimize traffic mixing and bottlenecks near Mehkri Circle, especially towards Jayamahal Road.
