Bharat Telecom 2025, inaugurated by Union Minister of Communications Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, has placed India firmly on the global telecom innovation map. Held in New Delhi, this flagship event, organised by the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) in association with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), aims to boost India's position as a telecom equipment manufacturing and export powerhouse.
During the inauguration, Mr. Scindia emphasised how India has evolved from being a "digital follower to a digital leader" under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. He outlined India's vast progress in telecom, citing the connection of 99% of the country’s villages with 5G services and the deployment of over 4.7 lakh telecom towers, marking a massive leap in rural digital infrastructure. These advances have transformed India's telecom narrative, from high costs and low coverage in the 1990s to becoming the second-largest telecom market globally and the most affordable data provider in the world.
The Minister described this evolution as not just a leap in access, but also in telecom innovation and export capability. With the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, liberalised spectrum policies, and support for indigenous manufacturing, India is now positioned to export world-class telecom solutions across a spectrum of technologies. Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications, echoed this vision, noting that India is now a “creator and exporter” rather than a passive consumer of telecom technology.
The Bharat Telecom 2025 event hosted over 80 Indian telecom and ICT firms, featuring next-gen products and services, with a global audience comprising more than 130 foreign delegates from over 35 countries. The event is designed as a holistic platform combining thematic exhibitions, technical conferences, B2B meetings, and knowledge-sharing forums. Discussions and showcases revolved around cutting-edge telecom domains, including:
-
5G deployment and application layers
-
Optical fibre infrastructure
-
Broadband expansion and rural connectivity
-
Satellite-based communication systems
-
Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems
-
AI-driven network optimization and cloud solutions
India’s emergence as a telecom hub is being driven by visionary policies, grassroots infrastructure development, and innovative indigenous startups. The government’s focus on inclusive digitisation is complemented by robust policy support such as the PLI scheme, which incentivises domestic manufacturing of telecom equipment. Moreover, India is also building its capacities in satellite communications to cover underserved regions and next-gen AI telecom applications, strengthening the country’s ambition to be a net exporter of telecom services and technology.
A vital partner in this journey, TEPC—established in 2009—has played a central role in promoting exports of telecom equipment and services. Its efforts span across the entire telecom value chain, including hardware, software, infrastructure products, consulting, and managed services. TEPC acts as the critical link between industry, government, and global buyers, encouraging collaboration and mutual growth.
Significantly, Bharat Telecom 2025 also serves as a diplomatic bridge, with the participation of several developing and emerging nations looking to collaborate with India for affordable, scalable telecom infrastructure. Indian firms are engaging with these global delegates to export customised telecom solutions, suitable for diverse markets, especially in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
Another highlight is India's leadership in affordable telecom innovation. As Mr. Scindia noted, Indian telecom firms are offering solutions at a fraction of global costs, without compromising quality. India’s telecom exports are expected to rise sharply, riding on the back of the Digital India initiative, Make in India, and a strategic focus on global market penetration.
The event’s significance lies not just in showcasing what India has achieved, but also in setting the direction for the future. India now aims to become the world’s telecom R&D and manufacturing hub, with focus on standardisation, indigenous IP creation, and global certifications. Moreover, India’s participation in international standard bodies like 3GPP and ITU reflects its increasing influence on global telecom policies and technology evolution.
In conclusion, Bharat Telecom 2025 underlines India’s transformation into a formidable force in global telecom. With policy stability, infrastructure reach, and innovation, India is poised to become a global telecom superpower, not just in service delivery, but in designing, developing, and exporting next-gen telecom technologies. As the world seeks reliable, cost-effective, and scalable telecom solutions, India offers a compelling case as the partner of choice.
