In a significant political statement, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has reaffirmed that the BJP will continue to support Nitish Kumar as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar. This announcement came amid growing speculation about a potential leadership change following the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in 2025. Choudhary, addressing concerns about leadership shifts, made it clear that the BJP is firmly behind Kumar. The statement serves to dispel rumors that the NDA might look for a new face to lead the coalition after the elections. He emphasized that Nitish Kumar, who has led the NDA in Bihar since 1996, will continue to be the alliance's leader.

In his interview, Choudhary also commented on the growing interest in Nishant Kumar, Nitish Kumar's son, possibly entering politics. He clarified that any decisions regarding Nishant's political career are JD(U)'s internal matter, and the BJP will fully support whatever decision the party makes. Choudhary downplayed the political challenge posed by Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), dismissing him as a "mere appointee" of his father Lalu Prasad Yadav. He further criticized Tejashwi's leadership, calling him a "kid" who would be sidelined once Lalu Prasad decided otherwise.

Choudhary's remarks reflect the BJP's steadfast position on its alliance with Nitish Kumar, despite past criticisms. When JD(U) was in opposition, the BJP had been critical of Kumar. However, since JD(U) rejoined the NDA fold, the BJP has shown full support. Choudhary also noted that Nitish Kumar's leadership has always aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, further solidifying his role within the NDA at both the state and national levels.

As the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach, Choudhary expressed confidence in the NDA’s victory, predicting that the alliance would win more than 200 seats out of Bihar’s 243-seat assembly. He attributed this expected success to the “double engine government” model, referring to the combined governance efforts of the BJP at the national and state levels. The "double engine" approach is touted as a key reason for the development seen under the BJP-led coalition government.

Choudhary also touched on the role of other NDA allies, particularly Chirag Paswan, leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). He praised Paswan as a strong leader who bolstered the coalition. He then turned his attention back to Tejashwi Yadav, criticizing his policies and accusing him of offering contradictory promises, such as proposing relief for toddy tappers despite being part of the government that had imposed prohibition.

On the issue of Tejashwi Yadav’s tenure as Deputy CM, Choudhary dismissed his claims of achievements, suggesting that real power in the state always lies with the Chief Minister, not the deputy. He also reminded the public of the 15 years of RJD rule, which he claims was marked by lawlessness and violence. Choudhary further cited infamous incidents from the past, including the infamous theft during Lalu Prasad’s daughter’s wedding. These memories, according to Choudhary, continue to haunt the people of Bihar and influence their political choices.
