Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a notable declaration on Friday, characterizing his past alliances with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by his long-time rival Lalu Prasad, as significant "mistakes". Speaking at an event where he shared the stage with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, who also serves as the BJP's national president, Kumar emphasized his commitment to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Reflecting on his political journey, Kumar stated, "Our relationship goes back to the 1990s... all the good work in Bihar has been done under our stewardship". He acknowledged that aligning with the RJD on two occasions had been a mistake and asserted that he was determined not to repeat that error. Kumar vowed to stay aligned with the NDA and the BJP moving forward, declaring, "I shall stay here (with the NDA)".

This statement from Kumar comes in the wake of his return to the NDA in January. Throughout the recent Lok Sabha elections, he consistently affirmed his allegiance to the BJP, declaring that he would be with the party "forever". His latest proclamation further solidifies his commitment to the BJP, which, despite recent losses in the Lok Sabha and reliance on allies like JD(U), remains a central force in Indian politics.

The backdrop to Kumar's remarks includes a recent meeting with Tejashwi Yadav, the son of Lalu Prasad and his former deputy when sharing power with the RJD. Although Yadav clarified that his attendance was for a scheduled meeting in his role as leader of the opposition, the media has speculated about a possible change in Kumar’s political stance.
