  • Bihar gangster Dabloo Yadav, wanted for a high-profile murder, was killed in a shootout with STF in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh late Sunday night.

  • Police recovered a cache of firearms and ammunition from the gangster, who had a ₹50,000 reward on his head and was evading arrest.

  • Yadav had abducted and murdered HAM party leader Vikash Kumar in May 2025; he buried the body in a diara region to hide the crime.

In a major breakthrough in a high-profile murder investigation, police forces from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh joined hands to neutralise Dabloo Yadav, a wanted gangster, during a midnight encounter in Hapur district. The incident, which occurred on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, brought an end to a long manhunt for a man accused of killing a prominent political figure in Bihar.

Encounter in Hapur's Simbhaoli Area

According to Additional Director General (ADG) Amitabh Yash of the UP Special Task Force (STF), the gunfight took place in the Simbhaoli area of Hapur, a locality that has been under watch due to criminal movement. The operation involved a coordinated effort by the Noida STF unit, Bihar Police, and the local Hapur police.

The police reportedly acted on intelligence that placed Yadav in the vicinity, leading to an attempt to apprehend him. However, the gangster opened fire, resulting in a retaliatory exchange that ended when he was shot in the chest. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, confirmed officials.

Who Was Dabloo Yadav?

Dabloo Yadav, a resident of Sahebpur Kamal in Begusarai district, Bihar, had been on the run since May 2025. He was the prime accused in the abduction and murder of Vikash Kumar alias Rakesh Kadam, a block president of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM party). Kumar, who was also a noted social worker, was kidnapped on May 24, 2025, and later murdered and buried in the diara region, a marshy riverside area known for being a haven for criminals.

The STF statement revealed that Yadav used his gang to execute the abduction and murder, later attempting to hide the crime by burying the body under sand. The heinous nature of the crime and the political profile of the victim had triggered pressure on authorities to nab the culprit swiftly.

Due to the seriousness of his crimes, a reward of ₹50,000 was announced on his capture. His activities had drawn the attention of law enforcement agencies across multiple states, and he was considered armed and dangerous.

Arms and Ammunition Seized

The encounter site yielded significant findings. The STF recovered a large cache of weapons, including firearms, cartridges, and communication devices believed to have been used in criminal activities. These items are now part of the evidence that could lead to further unraveling of the gang's operations.

A Boost for Inter-State Policing

This incident is being seen as a success story of inter-state police cooperation, a model increasingly being adopted in India to tackle trans-border criminal elements. The Bihar Police and the UP STF worked in tandem, sharing intelligence and pooling resources, which finally led to the tracking down of the fugitive.

Political Reactions and Community Response

The murder of Vikash Kumar had stirred unrest in Begusarai and surrounding areas, with multiple protests demanding justice. His family had alleged that local political rivalries and criminal nexus played a role in the incident. With Dabloo Yadav now dead, many are calling for the probe to continue so that any remaining conspirators or accomplices can be brought to justice.

Local leaders from the HAM party have expressed relief and satisfaction with the encounter, thanking the police for their action. However, human rights groups and some political voices have raised questions about the encounter, demanding an independent inquiry to ensure transparency and due process.

Gang Networks in the Diara Belt

The diara region, a stretch of land prone to flooding and interspersed with riverine islands, has long been a hub for organised crime, especially in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Criminals use the inaccessible terrain to evade law enforcement, and many gang lords operate parallel justice systems in these areas.

Yadav was believed to be one of the key operatives in this shadow network, with links to smuggling, extortion, and political killings. His elimination is likely to cause short-term disruption to the gang but experts suggest others may rise to fill the vacuum.

Administrative Reactions

Top officials from both UP and Bihar have lauded the STF operation. “This is a big win for the forces,” said an official from the Home Ministry, noting the importance of ensuring law and order in sensitive zones like Hapur and Begusarai.

The UP Police Department has stated that it will continue to target criminal gangs operating across state borders, particularly those involved in violent political crimes. Meanwhile, Bihar Police has also indicated that the larger investigation into the murder conspiracy will continue.

Looking Ahead

While the death of Dabloo Yadav brings closure to one chapter, the case of Vikash Kumar’s murder is far from over. Police are expected to interrogate members of Yadav’s gang and trace the financial and political links behind the incident.

This operation serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by criminal-political nexuses and the critical need for proactive policing, especially in states facing complex socio-political challenges.

With heightened public interest, authorities are under pressure to maintain momentum and ensure that all those involved—directly or indirectly—in the killing are brought to justice, thus reaffirming public faith in the system.
