  • Bihar fills 7,000 posts: 6,341 junior engineers and 496 instructors appointed after legal hurdles.
  • Departments included: Water Resources, Planning and Development, Rural Works, and more.
  • Political remarks: Nitish Kumar focuses on development, targeting opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

In a major announcement, the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar declared the successful recruitment of nearly 7,000 vacant posts across various state departments. The recruitment process had faced significant legal challenges over the years, delaying the filling of these positions. The recruitment was a result of years of legal wrangling, but finally, the state government was able to distribute appointment letters to 6,341 junior engineers (JEs), along with 496 instructors (anudeshaks), who will be appointed to the Labour Department.

The Recruitment Drive: Key Details

The recruitment drive was launched under the leadership of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has emphasized development since he first assumed office in 2005. The Water Resources Department, led by Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, served as the nodal agency for the junior engineer recruitment process. Chaudhary explained that the majority of these posts had been advertised back in 2019 by the Bihar Technical Service Commission but had faced legal challenges from aspirants, many of whom were already working on contractual terms or held diplomas from non-government institutions.

These legal challenges led to petitions being filed in the Patna High Court and Supreme Court, delaying the process. However, with intervention from Nitish Kumar, the state submitted a proposal to resolve the impasse, which was later approved by the Supreme Court.

Bihar's Focus on Development

The newly filled positions are spread across several key departments. The Water Resources Department was the largest recruiter, hiring 2,338 junior engineers. Other departments included Planning and Development, with 1,273 posts filled, Rural Works with 759 posts, and Road Construction with 503 posts.

Chaudhary emphasized that the state’s focus on development has been unwavering since Nitish Kumar took office, and he indirectly targeted the RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Chaudhary claimed that the opposition had no choice but to admit the progress or risk political blunders.

Criticism of Rahul Gandhi and Caste Census Debate

In a political twist, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was set to visit Patna. Chaudhary accused Gandhi of undermining his own party and highlighted Nitish Kumar's leadership in pushing forward the caste census initiative. Chaudhary pointed out that it was Nitish Kumar's initiative to advance the caste census in Bihar, contrasting it with Rahul Gandhi’s alleged stance.

The recruitment success and the political statements have significantly contributed to the growing political discourse in Bihar ahead of the state’s political campaigns.
