In a major relief for government job aspirants, the Bihar cabinet on Tuesday approved a uniform examination fee of ₹100 for all preliminary recruitment tests conducted by state-level selection commissions.
The decision, taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, comes just months ahead of the state assembly elections and is being seen as a significant pro-youth reform.

As part of the decision, no examination fee will be charged from candidates appearing in the mains, provided they qualify the preliminary test.
The proposal was introduced by the General Administration Department (GAD) and formally cleared in the cabinet meeting.

What the CM Said

In a post on X, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar highlighted that the decision is aimed at reducing the financial burden on young candidates:

“A decision has been made to charge only ₹100 for the preliminary test of competitive examinations. Candidates who clear the prelims and appear for the mains will no longer have to pay any exam fee.”

He added that the move reflects the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to Bihar’s youth and helping them secure a better future.

Applicable Recruitment Bodies

The new fee structure will apply across all major state recruitment bodies, including:

• Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC)

• Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC)

• Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC)

• Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC)

• Central Constable Selection Board (CSBC)

Why This Matters

Until now, different commissions charged different fees for preliminary recruitment examinations, with some charging up to ₹600–₹700 per application.
With multiple examinations held throughout the year, candidates often ended up paying thousands of rupees in exam fees alone.

By standardising the fee at ₹100 and eliminating fee for mains, the Bihar government hopes to make the application process more affordable, especially for candidates from economically weaker backgrounds and rural areas.
