In a shocking and tragic turn of events, Bihar Police have arrested seven individuals, including a woman, for their involvement in the abduction and murder of a Pune-based businessman, identified as Laxman Sadhu Shinde. The case unfolded after Shinde, who had landed at Patna airport on April 11, 2025, was abducted shortly after his arrival. His body was eventually found on April 14, 2025, in the Ghosi area of Jehanabad district, a rural area in Bihar.
According to Bihar Police, Shinde had been lured to Patna through a seemingly legitimate business inquiry related to mining equipment for operations in Jharkhand, a deal that promised a high-value order worth several crores. This email-based trap turned into a deadly conspiracy, as Shinde was targeted by a criminal gang operating across multiple states.
Details of the Abduction and Murder
Following his arrival in Patna, Shinde was abducted by the gang, which then demanded a ransom from his family. The criminals had reportedly demanded a hefty amount but received only Rs 90,000 from the family. However, because they did not receive the full sum, they decided to kill Shinde, and his body was later dumped in Jehanabad.
Speaking to the media, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awkash Kumar stated that the police received a complaint from Shinde's family, who had lost contact with him after his arrival in Patna. Following an initial investigation and a review of CCTV footage, a special team was formed to locate the accused. The police soon recovered the vehicle used in the kidnapping, which led them to the owner of the vehicle, Vipatra Kumar, who was subsequently taken into custody.
Gang Busted and Multiple Arrests
Through custodial interrogation, Kumar revealed the identities of several members of the criminal gang, which operated in multiple states, including Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Karnataka. The gang was notorious for kidnapping and extorting money from their victims. The police were able to arrest seven individuals from various districts of Bihar, including Nawada, Gaya, Nalanda, and Vaishali. Four additional suspects are currently being questioned as part of an ongoing investigation.
The arrested gang members have been identified as Ranjit Patel alias Munna, Vipatara Kumar, Lalbihari, Vikas alias Mohit, Kundan Kumar, Sangita Kumari, and Sachin Ranjan. According to the police, some of these criminals were also involved in cybercrime activities, which added a layer of complexity to their operations.
A Cross-State Criminal Gang
The SSP revealed that the gang was part of an inter-state criminal network, involved in several kidnappings and murders across different states. They would often target victims with a high financial profile and demand ransom in exchange for their release. The investigation indicated that the gang had been operating for several years and had been involved in similar criminal activities in multiple regions of India.
The police investigation further revealed that the gang had targeted and extorted money from numerous victims in states such as Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, and even Bihar. Their criminal activities were not limited to just kidnapping but also included murder when victims were unable to meet their demands.
Patna Police’s Efforts and Public Safety
Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) also commended the police efforts, noting that their swift action had led to the bust of a dangerous criminal syndicate. The police continue to investigate the full extent of the gang's operations, and more arrests are expected as they piece together the full criminal network.
While the case of Laxman Sadhu Shinde is deeply tragic, it has highlighted the increasing risks posed by inter-state criminal gangs that target businessmen and entrepreneurs. Law enforcement agencies across various states will likely enhance cooperation to tackle such syndicates more effectively in the future.
