Three Key Takeaways:

  1. Several crows were found dead in Bihar’s Jehanabad, with lab tests confirming avian influenza as the cause.
  2. Authorities are collecting samples from poultry farms within a 3-km radius as a precautionary measure.
  3. Meanwhile, four cases of the H5N1 virus were detected in Madhya Pradesh, prompting immediate containment steps.

A bird flu scare has gripped Bihar’s Jehanabad district after several wild crows were found dead, with medical tests confirming the presence of the avian influenza virus. While the district has not yet been declared bird flu-affected, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking preventive measures.

Authorities Respond to Bird Flu Outbreak

According to District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey, the dead crows found in the Police Line area and its surroundings tested positive for bird flu. However, she clarified that these were wild and migratory birds, and as such, the district has not been officially declared as bird flu-affected.

To prevent further spread, officials have started collecting samples from poultry farms within a 3-kilometer radius of the affected area. The samples have been sent to a laboratory in Kolkata for further analysis.

Public Health Advisory: No Need to Panic

DM Pandey reassured the public, stating that all necessary precautions are being taken to contain the spread of the virus. "There is no reason to panic," she emphasized. "Once we receive the poultry sample reports, further actions will be taken as needed."

H5N1 Cases Detected in Madhya Pradesh

While Bihar deals with the avian influenza outbreak, the Union Health Ministry has confirmed four cases of the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus in Madhya Pradesh. The infections were detected in three pet cats and a live bird market in Chhindwara.

The government has taken swift action, culling all birds in the affected market and enforcing a 21-day closure for sanitization.

What’s Next?

With bird flu cases emerging in different parts of the country, authorities remain on high alert. Officials urge poultry farmers and the public to follow strict hygiene measures and report any unusual bird deaths immediately.

For now, the situation in Jehanabad remains under control, but authorities will continue to monitor poultry farms and wildlife to prevent a larger outbreak.
