The BJP has intensified pressure on Delhi's AAP government following sudden showers that caught the city off guard, resulting in severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The demand for an all-party meeting within 24 hours aims to address monsoon preparedness, reflecting concerns over repeated infrastructure failures during heavy rains.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi received 30.8 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, contrasting with 228 mm recorded on June 28, a historic high since 1936. Public Works Department (PWD) reported 33 complaints of waterlogging, impacting major traffic arteries such as ITO Marg, Ashoka Road, Seelampur Road, Rajdhani Park to Mundka road, and the Windsor Palace roundabout.
BJP leaders criticized the AAP government's readiness, highlighting alleged inefficiencies despite substantial budget allocations for drain cleaning by Delhi Jal Board (DJB), PWD, and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). They pointed out that only 150 out of 750 drains were cleaned before the monsoon, contributing to the widespread waterlogging issues.
AAP, in response, defended its infrastructure integrity, asserting that structures built by the Delhi government remained unscathed during the rain. The party also diverted attention by pointing out infrastructure failures in BJP-led Centre's projects across the country, emphasizing issues with newly inaugurated airports and bridges.
Amid escalating rhetoric, the BJP underscored the urgency for collaborative efforts through an all-party meeting to devise effective solutions for Delhi's monsoon challenges. This development unfolds amidst a backdrop of political tensions and public outcry over infrastructure management during adverse weather conditions in the national capital.
This comprehensive article aims to elucidate the ongoing BJP-AAP dynamics regarding monsoon preparedness in Delhi, catering to readers keen on current affairs and urban governance issues impacting daily life and infrastructure development.
