The Haryana Assembly polls are set for October 5, with counting on October 8, as the BJP aims for a third consecutive term.

In a significant move ahead of the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the expulsion of eight leaders, including two former ministers, for deciding to contest the upcoming elections as Independent candidates. This decision, made public on September 29, has intensified the political dynamics within the state as the elections approach.

The announcement was made by Mohan Lal Badoli, the state party chief, who stated that these leaders would face a six-year expulsion from the party, effective immediately. Among those expelled is Ranjit Chautala, a prominent figure who had previously served as a minister. Chautala's departure from the BJP was triggered by his discontent over being denied a party ticket for the Rania constituency, a seat he once represented as an Independent MLA. Following his exit from the Assembly, he joined the BJP but faced disappointment in his recent bid for a ticket during the elections.

Alongside Chautala, the BJP expelled Sandeep Garg, who is contesting against Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini from the Ladwa constituency, and six other leaders: Zile Ram Sharma (Assandh), Devender Kadyan (Ganaur), Bachan Singh Arya (Safido), Radha Ahlawat (Meham), Naveen Goyal (Gurgaon), and Kehar Singh Rawat (Hathin). This expulsion reflects a growing rift within the party as leaders express frustration over the ticket allocation process.

The situation in Haryana is further complicated by actions taken by the Haryana Congress, which expelled 13 leaders for similar reasons, labeling their decision to run as independents as "anti-party activities." These moves signal a troubling trend within both major parties, as dissatisfaction over candidate selections has led to public defections and internal conflicts.

As the 90-member Haryana Assembly gears up for elections on October 5, with vote counting scheduled for October 8, the BJP is striving to secure a third consecutive term in power. The political landscape is heating up as parties grapple with leadership disputes and the aspirations of independent candidates, which could potentially alter the outcome of the elections.

The BJP’s attempts to address these internal challenges underscore its commitment to maintain a unified front as it heads into a crucial electoral battle. Meanwhile, both the BJP and Congress are working to manage discontent among their ranks, aiming to consolidate support for their candidates in the face of emerging independent challengers.

With the stakes high in the Haryana Assembly Elections, all eyes will be on how these dynamics play out in the coming days and how the electorate responds to the actions of both major parties. The unfolding political scenario promises to be one of intense competition, with potential implications for the future governance of Haryana.
