BJP accused Congress of being divided, with leaders like Tharoor and Khurshid supporting India's stance while others question national actions.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday strongly attacked the Congress party's Jai Hind Yatra, branding it more like a “Jai Pakistan Yatra” amid the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan. The BJP spokesperson, Sambit Patra, accused Congress leaders of repeatedly questioning the government's handling of the conflict, which he said was detrimental to the morale of the Indian armed forces.
Patra pointed fingers at senior Congress figures like Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for persistently asking about the number of Indian aircraft lost during the recent military operations. He further criticised Jairam Ramesh for equating Members of Parliament (MPs) travelling abroad as part of all-party delegations with terrorists, a statement that Patra called irresponsible and contradictory to the delegations’ mission to project India’s position internationally.
Allegations of Divisions Within Congress
Highlighting the internal contradictions within the Congress party, Patra said some Congress MPs are actively supporting the government’s stance internationally, while others, including Rahul Gandhi, are perceived to be critical and undermining national security. Patra claimed that this divide reflects one faction in the party that supports Pakistan and another that is trying to raise their voice for India but is constrained by senior leadership.
Undermining Armed Forces’ Morale
Patra accused Congress leaders of “lowering the morale” of the armed forces through their questions and statements about the conflict and the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack. According to Patra, such behaviour damages national unity at a time when the country needs solidarity.
Political Exchanges and Historical References
Patra recalled the Congress-led UPA government era, alleging it had invited terrorists to the Prime Minister's Office under the leadership of then Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He also referenced reports that Sonia Gandhi showed sympathy for terrorists killed in the Batla House encounter.
He further cited Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s admission that Indian BrahMos missiles had struck Pakistan military facilities, emphasizing the damage inflicted on the neighbouring country. Patra urged Rahul Gandhi to “listen to his friend Sharif” to understand the consequences of India’s military actions.
Expert Opinions and Political Criticism
Patra quoted US-based military expert John Spencer, who reportedly stated that India won the technological war in the conflict, while Pakistan lost as a proxy of China. Patra suggested that many experts recognize India’s decisive victory, but the opposition, especially Congress, is attempting to undermine this narrative.
The BJP spokesperson also criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that she is sheltering infiltrators and Rohingyas in her state.
Conclusion: BJP Calls for Unity and Congress Accountability
With the Indo-Pak conflict escalating tensions across political lines, the BJP’s allegations against Congress reflect a sharp intensification of political rhetoric. The BJP demands Congress to halt the Jai Hind Yatra, which it calls a “Jai Pakistan Yatra,” and to unite with the government in presenting a strong, cohesive front on national security.
The party has also called upon Congress to focus on supporting the armed forces and national interests instead of questioning military operations or diplomatic efforts. As political discourse heats up, the country watches closely how these exchanges will impact India's internal unity and foreign policy posture.
