Ranaut's comments came after Banerjee urged peace and pledged support for the central government’s decisions regarding the situation.
Ranaut’s Remarks
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Kangana Ranaut, who represents Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, expressed her admiration for Banerjee's support. She highlighted that Banerjee's stance indicates her acceptance of Bengal as an integral part of India for the first time. Ranaut remarked, "For the first time, Mamata didi accepted that Bengal is a part of India and supported Centre remembering the Prime Minister. What a scene!"
Ranaut further noted the political and social implications, suggesting that Banerjee might face challenges from Bangladeshi refugees but reassured that she would be safeguarded under Modi’s leadership, reflecting confidence in the current administration's handling of national security and political stability.
Bangladesh Crisis
The crisis in Bangladesh escalated dramatically when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5, 2024, after weeks of intense protests against her government. Her departure ended a 15-year rule and was followed by significant unrest, including arson and vandalism targeting properties associated with her party, Awami League, and her family.
Mamata Banerjee’s Response
In response to the crisis, Mamata Banerjee called for peace and urged the people of West Bengal to ignore rumors and maintain calm. She stated her intention to support the decisions made by the Union government, which reflects a rare alignment with the central administration in the context of international and regional challenges.

Political Implications
Ranaut's comments and Banerjee’s support highlight the complex interplay of regional and national politics in India, especially in response to international events. The situation underscores the evolving nature of political alliances and the impact of global crises on domestic political landscapes.
As the situation in Bangladesh continues to unfold, the responses from Indian political leaders like Mamata Banerjee and the commentary from figures like Kangana Ranaut will likely influence public discourse and political strategies in the region.
