The BJP Rajasthan unit president, Madan Rathore, has issued a show cause notice to state minister Kirodi Lal Meena for allegedly tarnishing the government’s reputation by claiming that his phone was being tapped, senior party leaders said on Monday.

However, Meena has denied knowledge of the notice and asserted his loyalty to the party. “I am a disciplined soldier of the BJP, and I will submit my response within the stipulated time once I receive the notice,” he said.

Political Controversy in Rajasthan Assembly

The controversy erupted when Meena made the phone tapping allegations during a public meeting, which was soon raked up by the opposition Congress. The Congress raised the issue in the Rajasthan Assembly, demanding Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s resignation.

In protest, Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully refused to deliver his speech on the Governor’s address. Congress MLAs further disrupted the assembly proceedings, raising slogans against the BJP government.

BJP's Justification for the Notice

According to the BJP’s show cause notice, Meena’s statements have tarnished the government’s reputation. The letter states:

"You are a member of the BJP and have been elected MLA from Sawai Madhopur on the party ticket. You are also a minister in the Rajasthan government. Recently, you provided news of your resignation from the Council of Ministers for publication in newspapers. Additionally, you made public statements accusing the BJP government of tapping phone calls, which is untrue."

The letter further states:

"By giving this statement, you have tarnished the reputation of the BJP majority government."

BJP’s Central Leadership Intervenes

The notice, issued under the direction of BJP national president JP Nadda, requires Meena to submit a written reply within three days.

Kirodi Lal Meena’s Response

Despite the controversy, Meena downplayed the matter, stating that he is a dedicated party worker and will respond once he officially receives the notice. His restrained response suggests that he may be trying to avoid further escalation within the party ranks.

Congress Seizes the Opportunity

The Congress party has capitalized on the situation, using it as ammunition to attack the BJP government. Demanding CM Bhajanlal Sharma’s resignation, Congress has intensified its political offensive against the ruling party in Rajasthan.
