Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Stadium has received a bomb threat email for the third time in a week, leading to an escalation in security measures at the prominent sports venue. The latest email, ominously titled "Bomb Blast in SMS Stadium," was sent on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, and has prompted authorities to increase vigilance. However, despite the alarming title, previous threats made against the stadium were ultimately found to be hoaxes, and there is skepticism regarding the credibility of this latest threat as well.
Neeraj K Pawan, President of the Rajasthan Sports Council, addressed the media about the incident. He noted that the threatening email seemed to be the work of a "deranged individual" rather than a serious threat. He pointed out that the email contained mobile numbers, which have now been handed over to the police for further investigation. Pawan’s statement suggests that the authorities do not consider the threat to be legitimate, although they are not taking any chances. As a precautionary measure, a thorough search operation has been initiated throughout the SMS Stadium premises, with security forces inspecting every part of the facility to ensure the safety of the public and the players.
This incident is the third such occurrence in a short span, adding to concerns about the safety of the venue. On May 8, a similar threat was made, which alluded to retaliation for India’s Operation Sindoor—a counter-terror operation carried out by the Indian Army. This operation, which began on May 7, was a response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. It involved precision strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), with the aim of dismantling terrorist infrastructure. The email warning on May 8 implied that the stadium would be bombed as a form of revenge for the operation, fueling additional anxiety around the venue.
In the aftermath of the operation, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated, leading to Pakistan's retaliation attempts on May 8, 9, and 10. However, the Indian Armed Forces responded decisively, carrying out a counteroffensive that caused significant damage to Pakistan’s military infrastructure. The situation eventually de-escalated after a ceasefire was agreed upon through diplomatic channels, with the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both nations stepping in to halt further hostilities.
Despite the earlier threats being deemed false alarms, the repeated nature of the bomb scare emails has led to heightened security measures at SMS Stadium. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and investigations into the source of the threatening messages are ongoing.
This threat comes at a time when national security is in the spotlight, especially following the military strikes and Pakistan’s subsequent response. Although the authorities have remained calm and are treating the threat cautiously, the repeated bomb scare emails reflect a disturbing pattern of harassment that may be linked to larger geopolitical tensions in the region. While the credibility of the threats remains questionable, the repeated security alerts and investigations underscore the heightened risk perception surrounding the stadium and other high-profile venues.
As security forces intensify their operations, the Rajasthan Sports Council and local authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of all stakeholders at the SMS Stadium. Fans and players alike are advised to remain vigilant, while the authorities continue to address the issue with the seriousness it warrants, despite the likelihood that the threats are hoaxes. The response from the Rajasthan Sports Council reflects the balance between maintaining public safety and preventing unnecessary panic, as the investigation unfolds.
