Kerala’s capital, Thiruvananthapuram, was put on high alert on Monday after bomb threats were issued to several key government locations, including the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the official residence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Cliff House, and the Secretariat. The threats, which were received via email, prompted immediate action from security agencies, resulting in the deployment of bomb disposal squads and intensified security checks at these high-security sites.
The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that search operations are underway, with police and bomb detection units thoroughly inspecting all affected areas. These locations have been cordoned off to ensure public safety, though as of now, no explosives have been discovered. Despite this, law enforcement is treating the threats with the utmost seriousness, reflecting heightened concern due to similar incidents in recent days.
The bomb threats are not an isolated occurrence. On Sunday, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport also received a bomb threat through email, which was later confirmed to be a hoax after extensive security checks. Additionally, several hotels in the city, including the Hilton Garden Inn and Gokulam Grand Hotel, received bomb threats on Saturday, leading to evacuations and thorough searches, none of which resulted in the discovery of explosives. These incidents have disrupted daily activities and raised public alarm, especially with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, scheduled to visit Kerala on May 2.
The authorities are now focusing their efforts on tracking the source of these threats. Although previous threats have been proven to be hoaxes, the seriousness with which they are being handled underscores the need for vigilance and the importance of ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors in the region.
Law enforcement agencies, including Kerala Police, have vowed to continue their investigations into the origin of these threats. They are working tirelessly to uncover the individuals or groups behind these disturbing events and ensure that the citizens of Kerala remain safe. The state government has also called for the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The timing of these threats has sparked additional concerns, given the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which places even greater pressure on security forces to guarantee the safety of public officials and citizens during such a high-profile visit. As investigations continue, the people of Kerala are urged to cooperate with the authorities and exercise caution.
The ongoing investigation is crucial, and more details are expected as authorities work around the clock to uncover the source of these bomb threats and ensure that the state remains secure in the coming days.
