What's covered under the Article:

  • Ground Zero saw a steep 70% drop in collections, earning just ₹63 lakh on Monday.

On April 28, 2025, several films at the box office experienced a significant drop in earnings, particularly on Monday, marking a decline in collections after a promising weekend. The major films in focus are 'Ground Zero', 'Kesari: Chapter 2', 'Jaat', and 'Phule', which all saw varying degrees of decline in their earnings.

Ground Zero:
Emraan Hashmi's 'Ground Zero', which had a slow start at the box office, showed some promise over the weekend. The film collected Rs 1.15 crore on Friday, improved to Rs 1.9 crore on Saturday, and further climbed to Rs 2.15 crore on Sunday. However, the earnings fell sharply on Monday by 70%, with the film only making Rs 63 lakh. This brought its total collections so far to Rs 5.83 crore. The movie, which is based on the elimination of the terrorist Gazi Baba, features a strong supporting cast, including Sai Tamhankar, Zoya Hussain, and Mukesh Tiwari, but its weak Monday earnings indicate potential challenges in sustaining box office performance.

Kesari: Chapter 2:
The Akshay Kumar starrer 'Kesari: Chapter 2' had a more substantial box office opening, collecting Rs 7.75 crore on its first day. The film showed good growth over the weekend, bringing in Rs 8.1 crore by Sunday. However, it also experienced a decline of 62% in its Monday earnings, collecting Rs 3 crore. The total collection for 'Kesari: Chapter 2' now stands at Rs 68.4 crore, though it has yet to reach the critical Rs 100 crore milestone. Despite the decline, the film's weekend boost helped it maintain a strong standing at the box office. The movie’s budget is reported to be around Rs 150 crore, meaning it still has a long way to go to recover costs and become profitable.

Phule:
On a more positive note, 'Phule', which stars Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa, showed growth over the weekend. Despite its excellent direction and storyline, particularly focusing on the life of social reformers Joyitba Phule and Savitribai Phule, the film struggled to attract a large audience. It earned Rs 0.15 crore on its opening day, grew to Rs 0.3 crore on the second day, and collected Rs 0.6 crore on Sunday. Interestingly, the film showed growth on Monday, earning Rs 0.24 crore, bringing its total earnings to Rs 1.29 crore. While it outperformed some of its competitors in terms of direction and storyline, its box office performance remains underwhelming, with a relatively modest total collection.

Jaat:
Sunny Deol's 'Jaat' also faced a decline in collections on Monday. The film's earnings dropped by 69%, with it collecting only Rs 62 lakh on April 28. Despite an opening that generated Rs 85.62 crore in total earnings so far, the film has seen a slowdown in its box office run. While the Sunny Deol starrer has managed to perform decently, it too reflects the challenges that many recent releases are facing in maintaining consistent box office revenue, especially after the initial weekend.

Overall Box Office Trends:
The Monday box office performance for these films highlights a broader trend seen in the industry. While films tend to perform strongly on the weekend, their earnings often decline on Mondays, as audiences shift their focus to other activities. The case of 'Ground Zero' stands out due to its steep drop, whereas 'Kesari: Chapter 2' and 'Jaat' have still managed to maintain solid total earnings despite the decrease.

In conclusion, 'Kesari: Chapter 2' leads the pack in terms of total earnings, but the box office trajectory for all the films is facing a period of volatility. As each film continues its run, it will be interesting to see if they manage to recover and build momentum through upcoming weeks.
