Capri Global Stock Crashes 26% from Highs, Stuns Nifty 500 Investors

    27/Mar/2025

  • Capri Global surged 13% early in the day but crashed 26% from the highs, now down 11.6%.

  • The stock saw record trading volumes, with 11 crore shares traded by 2 PM, well above average levels.

  • Quant Mutual Fund holds a 1.53% stake, while public shareholding remains limited at 1.27%.

  • Company announces trading window closure per SEBI insider trading regulations.

In a stunning turn of events, Capri Global Capital Ltd. saw its share price crash by 26% from the day’s high, erasing all early gains and more. The stock, which was up 13% and the top gainer on the Nifty 500 index until 12:30 PM, suddenly took a sharp nosedive, making it the top loser of the day.

At 2 PM on March 27, Capri Global was down 11.6%, trading at ₹172.2, well below its intraday high of ₹231, which was close to its 52-week high of ₹251.

Unusual Trading Activity: Record Volumes Seen

The sharp crash in Capri Global’s stock price was accompanied by extraordinarily high trading volumes:

  • Nearly 11 crore shares had been traded by 2 PM, following an already high-volume session on Wednesday, where 4.67 crore shares exchanged hands.

  • This marks a huge deviation from the stock’s average daily volume, which typically ranges between 1 lakh to 3 lakh shares.

The sudden surge in volumes followed by a steep price drop suggests that large traders or institutional investors may have booked profits, triggering a panic sell-off among retail investors.

Trading Window Closure Announced

In a separate development, Capri Global Capital Limited announced a trading window closure starting April 1, 2025, in compliance with SEBI’s Prohibition of Insider Trading Regulations, 2015.

The trading window will remain closed for all Directors, Promoters, Designated Persons, and their Immediate Relatives until 48 hours after the announcement of Q4 FY25 financial results.

This regulatory move ensures fair trading practices and prevents insider trading based on unpublished price-sensitive information.

Who Holds Capri Global Stock?

At the end of the December quarter (Q3 FY24), Quant Mutual Fund held a 1.53% stake in Capri Global Capital.

  • However, the company has a low overall institutional holding, with public shareholding at just 1.27% as of December 31, 2024.

  • This lack of large institutional investors makes the stock more vulnerable to extreme price swings, as a few big trades can significantly impact prices.

What Triggered the Stock’s Reversal?

While no official announcement caused the stock to plunge, a combination of factors could have contributed to the volatility:

  • Profit booking: After a 16% surge on Wednesday, some traders may have locked in profits, triggering sell-offs.

  • Algorithmic trading or stop-loss triggers: With record-high volumes, automated trading programs may have contributed to the stock’s sharp intraday movement.

  • Market sentiment & broader trends: The Nifty 500 index has been volatile in recent sessions, with some stocks seeing sharp swings in both directions.

Final Outlook

Capri Global’s wild price swings highlight the risks of sudden volatility in midcap and smallcap stocks. Investors should exercise caution, especially in stocks with low institutional holdings and unusually high trading volumes.

With no clear fundamental reason behind the price drop, traders will closely watch for further signs of stability or continued volatility in the coming days.
