In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked a former deputy secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) and six former Prasar Bharati officials in connection with a corruption case. The CBI action comes after the Lokpal referred the case to the agency following a complaint made last year.

The CBI FIR names a former Prasar Bharati Additional Director General (Engineering) and an ADG (Engineering-Headquarters), along with two Assistant Engineers from Doordarshan Kendra-Bhubaneswar and two others from DD News-Delhi. These individuals have been identified as suspects in the case, though the CBI has refrained from disclosing their names, as per the directions of the Lokpal.

The investigation was initiated following an order from the Lokpal dated December 20, 2024, which directed the CBI to look into the allegations raised against these officials. The Lokpal has also instructed the CBI to keep the identities of both the complainant and the suspects confidential in accordance with the Lokpal rules.

The CBI has filed the FIR under Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to criminal conspiracy, as well as under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case involves serious allegations of corruption and misconduct by the officials in question, though the precise nature of the allegations has not yet been made public.

This investigation underscores the ongoing efforts by the Lokpal and the CBI to address corruption within government departments and public service institutions. The case is being closely monitored, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
