China 10-year government bond yield rises after US China tariff rollback and trade truce

China’s 10-year government bond yield rose to 1.69% amid cautious investor sentiment following a US China tariff rollback and 90-day trade truce agreement.
The US agreed to cut tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while China lowered tariffs on US goods from 125% to 10% under the temporary deal.
Investors now focus on upcoming Chinese economic indicators including retail sales, unemployment rate, and loan prime rate to assess economic strength.

China’s 10-year government bond yield climbed to around 1.69% on Friday as investors remained cautious despite recent progress in trade negotiations with the United States. Over the weekend, trade talks held in Switzerland resulted in a significant breakthrough, with both countries agreeing to roll back most tariffs and establish a temporary 90-day trade truce.

Under the deal, the US drastically reduced tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while China reciprocated by lowering tariffs on US goods from 125% to 10%. This mutual reduction of trade barriers provided much-needed relief to global markets and eased concerns of an escalating trade conflict.

Despite these positive developments, the US reaffirmed its long-term strategic goal of reducing dependence on Chinese imports, signaling that trade tensions may not be fully resolved in the near term.

Looking ahead, investors are turning their attention to several critical economic indicators set to be released next week. These include retail sales, the unemployment rate, and the loan prime rate in China. The data will offer deeper insights into the health of China’s economy and help gauge how the country may perform as new US tariffs are poised to be implemented.
