The Xinhua News Agency, China's state-run media outlet, provided minimal details about the crash, stating that it occurred in China’s southernmost island province of Hainan—an area critical to the country’s military strategy in the South China Sea.

Hainan, located off China’s southern coast, serves as a key naval and air force stronghold for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The island hosts multiple military installations, including:
