Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) President Chirag Paswan delivered a powerful electoral message on Sunday, declaring his intent to contest all 243 seats in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, sending ripples through both the ruling and opposition blocs in the state.
Addressing a high-energy crowd at a rally in Bihar’s Saran district, Paswan said his decision stems from a broader vision to uplift Bihar’s economy, youth, and infrastructure, and to push back against forces attempting to sabotage his political momentum.
“I want to take Bihar to new heights. Our youth will no longer need to leave the state for jobs. Others will come to Bihar for opportunities,” said Chirag Paswan.
"Conspiracy to Block My Rise" — Chirag Strikes Back
The 42-year-old politician, who has steadily carved his political identity since the demise of his father Ram Vilas Paswan, made serious allegations about a "conspiracy" to hinder his growth.
“There’s a deliberate effort to keep me out of state politics. Some are scared that my 'Bihar First, Bihari First' vision is gaining traction. So they create confusion — asking if Chirag will even contest,” he said.
To quell all speculation, Paswan made his position clear:
“Yes, I will contest. I will fight in all 243 constituencies with full intensity,” he declared from the stage.
Slams Nitish Kumar’s Government over Law and Order
Paswan did not hold back in his criticism of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, especially after the recent murder of industrialist Gopal Khemka, which he cited as an example of Bihar's deteriorating law-and-order situation.
“What kind of governance is this where businessmen are killed in broad daylight? We will ensure that every citizen can walk freely, safely, without fear,” he asserted.
Tensions with Uncle Pashupati Paras Resurface
Without naming him, Paswan made veiled references to his estranged uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, who split the original LJP in 2021 and aligned briefly with the NDA before resigning from the Union Cabinet in April 2024.
“I was expelled from my own party. I had to vacate the home where my father served the people for years,” Paswan said, referring to the iconic 12, Janpath bungalow.
Paswan also expressed displeasure over Paras exploring ties with the opposition INDIA bloc, calling it an act of betrayal to the party’s core principles.
Criticism of RJD and the INDIA Bloc
Targeting Tejashwi Yadav and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Paswan said:
“Those who once promised jobs and grabbed land are now distributing pens in the name of youth empowerment.”
He was referencing the ‘Chhatra Yuva Sansad’ campaign and the alleged railway recruitment scam under RJD chief Lalu Yadav’s tenure.
Paswan further criticised the inheritance tax proposal floated in the Congress manifesto, labelling it “anti-family” and urging the electorate to remain cautious about such policies.
Push for a Domicile Policy
Paswan also backed the popular demand for a domicile policy aimed at reserving employment opportunities for the youth of Bihar.
“I fully support the rights of Bihari youth. But let us not forget — the 2006 domicile policy was scrapped in 2023 when RJD was in power. Their Deputy CM and Education Minister were responsible for it,” he reminded the audience.
Paswan’s Political Journey and the Road Ahead
After being politically sidelined in 2021 due to internal party splits, Chirag Paswan made a comeback with the BJP’s support in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, reclaiming his stature within the NDA. His declaration to contest all 243 seats is a calculated move not just to expand his base but also to position himself as a future kingmaker—or even a chief ministerial candidate, despite his denials.
While he continues to publicly reject ambitions of the Chief Minister’s chair, political observers note that his aggressive electoral stance, grassroots outreach, and focus on issues like youth employment, state safety, and economic revival, all signal a high-stakes transformation campaign in the making.
A Changing Political Landscape in Bihar
The Bihar Assembly elections 2025 are shaping up to be one of the most closely watched contests in the country. With Nitish Kumar's popularity waning, RJD battling internal and legal troubles, and the INDIA bloc facing coordination hurdles, Chirag Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas) is betting on a full-slate contest strategy to fill the political vacuum.
Whether this gamble will yield electoral success depends on how voters perceive his vision and whether he can mobilize a robust statewide campaign infrastructure. But the message is clear — Chirag Paswan is no longer playing second fiddle in Bihar politics.
