  • Chishoti flash floods leave 32 people missing, prompting a massive search and rescue mission by Army, NDRF, SDRF, and police forces.

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visits Jammu hospital, meets the injured, and praises swift coordination by J&K administration and rescue teams.

  • Authorities intensify efforts with drones, divers, and ground forces to locate the missing as locals recount harrowing survival experiences.

The Chishoti flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir have triggered a humanitarian crisis, with at least 32 people still missing after torrential waters swept through the area two days ago. The incident has left families devastated as rescue teams continue their efforts round the clock to locate survivors and retrieve bodies.

The floods occurred following heavy rainfall that struck the mountainous region, causing rivers and streams to overflow and engulf villages in their path. Eyewitnesses described how homes, vehicles, and farmlands were washed away within minutes, leaving residents little time to escape. Survivors recounted clinging to trees and rooftops, waiting desperately for help to arrive.

The Indian Army, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), and Jammu and Kashmir Police were immediately deployed to the site. Rescue teams are using drones, boats, divers, and manual search operations to comb through debris and floodwaters. The difficult terrain, strong currents, and continued rainfall have slowed down progress, but authorities remain determined to bring closure to affected families.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited a hospital in Jammu to meet the injured victims of the floods. During his visit, he expressed satisfaction over the prompt response of the J&K administration, Army, NDRF, SDRF, and police. Singh reassured the families of the missing that all possible resources are being mobilised to trace their loved ones. He added that the Central Government stands firmly with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in this hour of crisis.

The missing include men, women, and children from multiple villages across the Chishoti region. Families have gathered at makeshift camps, clinging to hope for the safe return of their relatives. Volunteers and NGOs are working alongside the administration to provide food, shelter, medical aid, and counselling support to survivors.

Experts warn that flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir have become more frequent due to a mix of climate change, deforestation, and unplanned construction near riverbeds. They stress the urgent need for long-term mitigation measures, such as improved drainage, better flood forecasting systems, and stricter regulation of construction in flood-prone areas.

As the search for 32 missing persons continues, the nation watches with hope and anxiety. The bravery of rescue teams, the resilience of survivors, and the commitment of the government will determine how quickly relief and recovery can be ensured in Chishoti.

The tragedy stands as a grim reminder of the vulnerability of mountain communities to extreme weather events and the importance of disaster preparedness in safeguarding lives.
