However, there were some areas of concern; the chest protection for the driver was rated as marginal, whereas the passenger received adequate chest protection. Additionally, the protection for the driver's upper leg was also marginal, although the vehicle performed well in the side impact tests, securing a perfect score of 16 points out of 16. This included tests for both the side movable deformable barrier and side pole impact, which are crucial in evaluating how a vehicle can protect its occupants in a collision.

Bharat NCAP's report stated, "The Citroen Basalt performed well in most areas, but its marginal protection for the driver’s chest and upper leg resulted in a 4-star rating." This highlights the importance of comprehensive safety assessments, where even marginal scores can significantly affect overall ratings. The Citroen Basalt’s 4-star rating places it among vehicles that prioritize safety, providing confidence to prospective buyers.

Among these are six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), Isofix child seat anchors, and seat belt reminders for all passengers. Notably, all variants come equipped with three-point seat belts, ensuring that safety is a standard across the lineup.

Under the Bonnet: The Basalt offers two engine options, catering to different driver preferences. The first is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 81 BHP and 115 Nm of torque. The second option is a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that boasts 108 BHP and 190 Nm of torque. This engine versatility allows buyers to choose according to their performance and efficiency needs. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed automatic gearbox, providing flexibility for different driving styles.

Pricing and Variants: Currently, the Citroen Basalt is priced between ₹7.99 lakh and ₹13.83 lakh, with the tested model being the top-spec Turbo AT Max variant. The Basalt is available in several trim levels, including You, Plus, Plus Turbo, Max Turbo, and Max Turbo AT, with dual-tone color options available for higher variants. This range of options allows customers to select a model that best fits their preferences and budget.
