In a tragic aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced a ₹10 lakh ex-gratia for the families of two men from the state who lost their lives during the assault. The attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, claimed 26 innocent lives, most of whom were unarmed tourists and pilgrims.

Among the victims were JS Chandramouli, a retired bank employee, and Madhusudan, an IT professional from Kavali. Both were reportedly on a pilgrimage when the terrorists, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, opened fire on a group of civilians in Pahalgam. This gruesome attack has been described as the most brutal civilian-targeted terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pulwama attack in 2019.

Reacting promptly, CM Naidu issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and condemnation, affirming the state's support for the grieving families. “The people of Andhra Pradesh stand with the families of Chandramouli and Madhusudan. This is not just an act of violence but a direct assault on India’s unity and integrity,” Naidu stated.

The Chief Minister travelled to Visakhapatnam Airport on Wednesday night to receive the mortal remains of JS Chandramouli. Accompanied by Union Minister K Rammohan Naidu, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, and MP Sribharat, Naidu offered floral tributes and walked alongside the funeral procession, offering comfort to the deceased’s family members.

Naidu described the incident as a "premeditated act of terror", revealing that eyewitnesses saw Chandramouli attempting to flee before being shot. His actions and the accounts from survivors have drawn national attention to the barbarity of the attackers, who allegedly questioned the religion of the victims before targeting them.

This heinous act has not only led to widespread mourning and protests across the country but also prompted calls for unity in the fight against terrorism. CM Naidu urged the citizens of the country to stand firm against forces attempting to destabilize India. "In times like these, we must stay united. India recently witnessed peaceful elections and rising employment in regions like Kashmir. Such attacks are designed to derail progress and sow fear," he said.

The Andhra Pradesh government has directed its administration to provide all possible support to the families of the victims, including psychological counselling and logistical help for funeral arrangements. Officials have also been assigned to remain in contact with the families to ensure that no bureaucratic hurdle delays the disbursement of the ex-gratia amount.

Meanwhile, the Union Government and security agencies have launched massive search operations to track down the perpetrators. Visuals from Pahalgam show deserted streets and tight security, reflecting the state of fear and emergency in what was once a peaceful tourist destination.

Political leaders across party lines have condemned the attack, with some calling for stronger counter-terror policies. Public anger has also led to the announcement of a Jammu bandh, with several civic bodies urging the people to come together in solidarity against the spread of violence and radical ideology.

This incident has once again highlighted the importance of intelligence vigilance, preventive actions, and unity among citizens in resisting extremist threats. The Pahalgam attack has brought back painful memories of past tragedies and has become a grim reminder that terrorism remains a persistent threat that must be countered with unwavering resolve.

Chandrababu Naidu's swift action, public presence, and emotional outreach have been widely appreciated, showing a government ready to support its people in times of dire need. His statement serves as a clarion call for national solidarity and for the citizens of India to reject hatred and support the ideals of peace and unity.

As investigations continue and the hunt for the attackers progresses, the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives and reaffirms its resolve to defeat terror in all its forms. The coming days will be crucial not just for law enforcement but also for society to come together, honour the memory of the victims, and ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain.
