Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, during an interview with ANI. Calling him a "namuna" (specimen), Yogi Adityanath remarked that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) needs a few specimens like Rahul Gandhi to ensure that the political landscape remains clear and favorable for them. The Chief Minister criticized Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, dubbing it as "Bharat Todo Abhiyan" (Campaign to Break India), and asserted that the true intentions behind the yatra were well understood by the people of India.
'Rahul jaise kuch namune rehne chahiye' – Yogi Adityanath's Jibe
During the interview, CM Yogi Adityanath took a direct jibe at Rahul Gandhi, stating that Rahul and his actions have exposed his intentions to the nation. "The Bharat Jodo Yatra is part of Bharat Todo Abhiyan. He criticizes India outside India. The country has understood his nature and intentions. In India's politics, Bharatiya Janata Party ke liye Rahul jaise kuch namune rehne chahiye jisse ek rasta hamesha ke liye saaf hota rahe aur acha rahe," said Yogi.
Congress' Role Over 10 Decades Questioned
CM Yogi further questioned the Congress party's contributions over the past ten decades and alleged that the party deliberately kept the Ayodhya controversy alive for political gain. "Ek Bharat ko Shresht Bharat nahi hona chahiye? You should ask them, then, what were they doing for six to ten decades? He should have asked his grandfather, grandmother, and father. Why didn't they do it at that time? The whole of India is getting support from PM Narendra Modi. Why didn’t the Congress do this? They always wanted to let the Ayodhya controversy remain a controversy," he said.
Yogi Highlights BJP’s Contributions in Ayodhya and Beyond
Yogi Adityanath highlighted that BJP has achieved milestones such as the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the promotion of the Kumbh Mela with pride and divinity, and the abolition of triple talaq. "In Kashi's Sankri Gali, they have been doing politics all their life in the name of Mahatma Gandhi, but in 1916, Gandhi made strong remarks on Kashi’s condition. Why did Congress not fulfil the dream of Mahatma Gandhi? His dream was fulfilled by PM Modi. Why did the Congress not abolish the three-talaq system? Why did Congress fail to provide a world-class model of infrastructure in the country? And in Ayodhya, the construction of the Ram Mandir has been completed. Everyone is getting a glimpse of a new Ayodhya, with lakhs of devotees visiting daily," Yogi asserted.
Akhilesh Yadav Also Targeted
Apart from targeting Rahul Gandhi, CM Yogi also attacked Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party (SP), for his comments on Jinnah. Yogi Adityanath criticized Akhilesh for glorifying Muhammad Ali Jinnah and accused the opposition of having misguided allegiances. "In our culture, it is said that the one who worships becomes like the one they worship. We respect Ram, Krishna, and Shiva, and by their grace, we imbibe their virtues. But those who glorify Aurangzeb and Babar will reflect similar qualities. These people have glorified Jinnah, Aurangzeb, and Babar. So, what will their feelings be towards India's heritage and its great leaders?" Yogi remarked.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Jinnah Comment Recalled
Yogi reminded the audience of Akhilesh Yadav’s controversial statement made in November 2021, where he equated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Jinnah, claiming that they studied in the same institution and contributed to India's freedom. "We remember that during the unity run organized for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the ideal of India's unity, we invited everyone. While we expressed our faith in Patel, these people glorified Jinnah. What will be their emotions toward India and its great leaders?" Yogi questioned.
Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party’s Legacy Under Scrutiny
CM Yogi highlighted that those who praised Jinnah and distorted history could not be trusted to uphold India's values. He stressed that the people of Uttar Pradesh and the country were aware of the "opportunistic politics" of the opposition. "These are the same people who supported and glorified Jinnah. Such people have no connection with India’s great legacy. Their politics is based on division and opportunism," said Yogi.
BJP’s Position Strengthened Through Opposition’s Mistakes
Yogi Adityanath concluded by suggesting that Rahul Gandhi’s actions and the opposition's misguided politics have inadvertently strengthened BJP’s position. "As long as Rahul Gandhi continues his politics in this manner, BJP’s path will remain clear, and the people of India will continue to place their trust in Modi Ji and the BJP," Yogi said.
Impact on Upcoming Elections
Yogi’s remarks are likely to fuel political debate ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with BJP using these statements to further consolidate its support base. Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Akhilesh Yadav’s comments on Jinnah may be used as key talking points by the BJP to underscore its narrative of nationalism and development.
The war of words between BJP and the opposition is expected to intensify as the political climate heats up. CM Yogi’s sharp remarks have set the stage for a polarized electoral battle in the months to come.
