Oil companies in India have announced a reduction in the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 24, effective from June 1, 2025. The new price stands at Rs 1,723.50. This follows a previous cut of Rs 41 in April. These price adjustments are linked to fluctuations in international crude oil prices and overall market dynamics.
Importantly, domestic LPG cylinders used for household cooking remain unaffected and their prices stay unchanged. With nearly 90 percent of LPG consumption in India being for domestic use, this move primarily offers some economic relief to businesses and commercial consumers.
India’s LPG prices vary across states due to local taxes and transport costs. The pricing of domestic natural gas is tied to crude oil prices, currently set at 10 percent of the average price of the Indian crude basket. In May 2025, the average crude oil price dropped to $64.5 per barrel, the lowest in over three years, potentially reducing losses for oil marketing companies by 45 percent in the next financial year.
Additionally, the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), or jet fuel, has been reduced by nearly 3 percent for the third consecutive month. In Delhi, ATF prices fell by Rs 2,414.25 per kilolitre (2.82%) to Rs 83,072.55 per kilolitre. This followed reductions of 4.4 percent in May and 6.15 percent in April, cumulatively offsetting earlier hikes.
These cuts are expected to ease the fuel cost burden on commercial airlines, where fuel accounts for about 40 percent of operational expenses. However, airlines have not yet issued official comments on the new rates.
Other metro cities also saw declines in ATF prices: Mumbai’s rate dropped to Rs 77,602.73 per kilolitre from Rs 79,855.59, while Chennai and Kolkata saw rates cut to Rs 86,103.25 and Rs 86,052.57 per kilolitre respectively.
These reductions come amid broader global market changes and offer welcome relief for sectors dependent on fuel, while household consumers continue to benefit from stable domestic LPG prices.
