  • CAQM mandates from January 2026, no new diesel or petrol vehicles can be added to delivery and aggregator fleets in Delhi-NCR.

  • The rule applies to all two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers in commercial fleets, aiming to reduce pollution.

  • Haryana, UP, Rajasthan governments urged to formulate similar policies for entire NCR including Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has announced a landmark directive to promote cleaner mobility in the Delhi-NCR region. Effective from January 1, 2026, no new diesel or petrol vehicles will be allowed to join the fleets of e-commerce companies and vehicle aggregators operating in this region. This mandate covers all commercial delivery and mobility fleets including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers.

The CAQM has stressed the urgent need to address the heavy contribution of the transport sector to air pollution in the NCR, especially during the winter months when pollution peaks sharply. The commission has emphasised that the rapid adoption of zero-emission vehicles such as Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) should be prioritised to ensure cleaner air and a sustainable future.

Currently, this directive is applicable only within Delhi-NCR. However, the CAQM has called upon the governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan to create comprehensive policies that cover vehicle aggregators, delivery service providers, and e-commerce players across the entire National Capital Region. This includes major cities like Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, which witness high intra-city and inter-city vehicular traffic.

The commission’s notice highlights the imperative of transitioning quickly to cleaner and more efficient mobility options. It states that reliance on fossil-fuel-based vehicles must be drastically reduced to combat air pollution and protect public health.

This move signals a major step forward in India’s push for green transportation and is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric and CNG vehicles in commercial operations across the NCR, helping the region tackle its severe air quality challenges
