Concord Control Systems Limited (BSE: CNCRD), one of India’s foremost players in the field of embedded electronic systems and critical electronic solutions, has announced a significant step forward in its strategic journey towards driving indigenous innovation and technological self-reliance. The company has increased its equity stake to 46.5% in Progota India Private Limited, marking a key milestone in its efforts to accelerate the development and deployment of Kavach 4.0, India’s flagship Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
This announcement reinforces Concord’s long-term vision to strengthen its presence in railway automation, digital signalling, and safety technologies, positioning it as a core contributor to India’s ambitious rail modernization programme.
A strategic move towards indigenous rail safety innovation
The latest investment by Concord Control Systems is not merely a financial transaction; it represents a strategic collaboration to accelerate technological leadership in railway safety systems. The move will allow both Concord and Progota to combine their complementary strengths — Concord’s manufacturing, testing, and integration expertise, and Progota’s research and technological innovation — to fast-track the commercialization of Kavach 4.0.
Kavach, India’s Automatic Train Protection system, has been designed to prevent collisions by automatically controlling train speed and enforcing signal discipline. The system works by providing continuous communication between the train and the trackside equipment, ensuring that the train slows down or stops when signals are ignored.
The Kavach 4.0 version is an upgraded, SIL4-certified system, which meets global safety and reliability standards. With this stake increase, Concord aims to play a pivotal role in deploying this system across Indian Railways’ extensive network.
Aligning with Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India
The acquisition is directly aligned with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India policies, focusing on developing world-class technologies indigenously. By investing further in Progota India, Concord is reaffirming its commitment to local manufacturing, innovation, and skill development in high-tech sectors.
Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, Indian Railways has set ambitious targets for rail safety and modernization, which includes the rollout of Kavach on over 10,000 locomotives and 34,000 route kilometres in the next six years. This will be one of the largest ATP deployments in the world, reflecting India’s determination to establish itself as a global leader in railway automation technology.
Concord’s deeper partnership with Progota places the company at the heart of this transformation, supporting India’s shift from being a technology importer to a technology innovator.
Strengthening the Kavach 4.0 ecosystem
Through this investment, Concord Control Systems aims to enhance its production and supply chain capabilities for Kavach 4.0, ensuring that Indian Railways has reliable, high-quality, and scalable access to the latest ATP systems. The company’s state-of-the-art R&D and manufacturing facilities, approved by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), will play a vital role in supporting this expansion.
Progota India, incorporated in 2021, has established itself as a specialist in railway automation and Kavach ATP systems, focusing on scientific, technological, and engineering services for the Indian Railways. Its rapidly expanding order book demonstrates the growing demand for railway automation technologies across India.
By combining Progota’s innovation capabilities with Concord’s large-scale manufacturing and integration experience, the partnership is expected to accelerate institutionalisation and scaling in the rail-safety domain, ensuring faster adoption and nationwide deployment.
