Outburst follows Supreme Court remarks on Rahul Gandhi, triggering renewed political blame over border policies and troop sacrifices.
In a sharp and politically charged response, the Indian National Congress has renewed its attack on the Modi government over the 2020 Galwan Valley clash with China, calling it India’s worst territorial setback since the 1962 war. The outburst came in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s criticism of Rahul Gandhi, which the Congress claimed was being misused by the ruling party to deflect attention from serious national security failures.
The Congress Party issued a strongly worded statement accusing the government of denial, distraction, lying, and justification in the face of a historic military humiliation, while accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of prioritising trade over territorial integrity.
Galwan: India’s biggest military sacrifice since Kargil
The Galwan Valley standoff in June 2020 resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers in a brutal hand-to-hand combat with Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. It was the first deadly clash between Indian and Chinese forces in 45 years, and marked a turning point in bilateral relations.
Despite multiple rounds of diplomatic and military talks, tensions persist along several friction points in Ladakh. China continues to block Indian patrol access to several traditional patrolling points, especially in Depsang Plains and Demchok sectors.
According to the Congress, the government’s silence and refusal to acknowledge the extent of Chinese incursions in Parliament is a betrayal of both the Armed Forces and the Indian public.
“Galwan hua kya?” still echoes
The Congress leadership revived Narendra Modi’s infamous 2020 remark, where he claimed that “no one has entered Indian territory, nor is anyone occupying it.” This, they allege, emboldened the Chinese government and weakened India’s global diplomatic position, making it harder to push for complete de-escalation and withdrawal.
