The current COVID-19 situation in India remains under control despite a global increase in cases particularly in Singapore and Hong Kong where health authorities have reported a surge. As of May 19 2025 India has 257 active COVID-19 cases all of which are mild according to sources at the Union Health Ministry.
This update follows a recent high-level review meeting involving experts from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) the Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) division the Disaster Management Cell the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and representatives from Central government hospitals. The meeting was chaired by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) and aimed at assessing the ongoing COVID-19 trends and preparedness.
Despite the rise in cases globally and regionally India’s health authorities maintain that the situation remains manageable with all active cases presenting mild symptoms and under appropriate medical supervision. The Ministry has advised continued vigilance with ongoing monitoring and response strategies to prevent escalation.
The surge in cases in Singapore and Hong Kong has prompted regional health agencies to increase testing tracing and public awareness campaigns to contain the spread of the virus especially in vulnerable populations. Health experts emphasise the importance of vaccination boosters and adherence to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour as key measures to control the pandemic in these regions.
India’s coordinated approach involving multiple expert bodies ensures timely updates and effective management of COVID-19 with a focus on early detection and treatment. The government continues to encourage citizens to follow health advisories and stay informed through official channels as the situation evolves.
Overall the collective efforts aim to keep the pandemic under control and mitigate risks of new variants or outbreaks while supporting public health infrastructure and community resilience.
