Chennai Super Kings (CSK) endured a humiliating defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League 2025 encounter, marking an all-time low in their IPL history. The losing streak started with a victory over Mumbai Indians on March 23, 2025, but CSK has since lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and now KKR.

• Three Consecutive Home Losses: Another first for CSK this season is their third consecutive home loss in the IPL. This marks a rare occurrence in a stadium that has traditionally been a fortress for the team. After their win against MI earlier in the season, CSK has now suffered defeats to RCB, DC, and KKR at Chepauk.

Dhoni Reflects on the Loss

After the match, CSK captain MS Dhoni, who is filling in for the rest of the season, expressed his disappointment but remained composed. He acknowledged that the team’s total was simply not enough to defend. "It has been quite a few nights that have not gone our way. The challenge has been there, we have to accept the challenge. Today, I felt we did not have enough runs on the board," Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.

He further explained that lack of partnerships in their batting and the pressure of losing too many wickets early made it difficult to recover. “When you lose too many wickets, there is pressure, and with quality spinners like Narine, it becomes even tougher,” Dhoni added. "We never got any partnerships, and had we had a bit more application, things could have been different."

Narine’s Stellar Knock

The loss also highlighted Sunil Narine’s blistering form, which helped KKR chase the target with ease. Narine’s knock of 44 off 18 balls was a key factor in KKR's dominating performance. He was well-supported by Rahane and the rest of the KKR top order, who wrapped up the chase without much trouble.

CSK’s Struggles This Season

The loss further underscores CSK’s struggles in IPL 2025. Despite a stellar reputation built over the years, MS Dhoni’s team has struggled to find form this season, with issues both in batting and bowling. This loss to KKR adds to their mounting concerns over consistency, especially at home, where they have traditionally been strong.
